Yeah, you're probably right. I was going to suggest that it was a bug with TE3 but then I realised that it was more likely that someone has done something wrong in their world than one of the most widely used mods in FTB is brokenThen it's either a bug with the texture pack, or it doesn't have a texture for a tesseract with an assigned channel.

The above "problem" is the texture when a channel is set.As said above the problem happens without a texture pack.
Ok Ill try to explain this slowly. That problem you are having is what the default tesseract texture looks like. You just arent used to it because you use a texture pack. That pack is missing a texture so it reverts to the default.As said above the problem happens without a texture pack.
