With DW20 pack going to 1.1.3/4 and the possible need to restart the world I was thinking of using this a chance to switch to other server software.

I'm lucky that I have a box at work that I use for hosting MC/FTB for myself mainly and 1 other user, I've been having issue's with lag and knowledge when using MineOS as the documentation is weak. Being an in-house box I can put whatever I want on there. The current spec is 3ghz Pentium D I think and 4gb RAM. Which I think should cope with only ever 2 users on the box.

So should I go to MineOS Turnkey or another solution?

Thanks

I personally use a slimmed down Debain 64bit with gnome. MineOS I never used before nor really compared it to other distros, but to me their claims of least resources requirements yet they add a web interface make me wonder a bit.

I think MineOS turnkey is Debian. I use it as I have little to no Linux experience so was using it hoping it would be plug and play in a sense and to be fair for the most part it has been. It's when there is an issue like unexplained lag etc and trying to diagnose there is little to no documentation/support.

Not to be an asshole, but with the processor like that the hardware is most likely lacking in terms of disk IO as well as processor speed. Switching OS won't fix your lag, MineOS is about as lightweight as you can find.

Your two best options are trying this JVM arguements: http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/jvm-arguments-for-modded-minecraft.28994/ or upgrading your hardware.

Even with 1/2 max players, I find it hard to believe the hardware can't cope? Plus I'm asking for suggestions to alternatives to MineOS as I don't find it very user friendly.
