SUPER high enchantments

One of the players on my server has items with 5 or more level X enchantments! I CAN NOT figure out how he is doing this. I am positive he is not cheating, and I know he is not using a terribly large number of levels to do this. I am not certain if what he is doing is even part of a mod or not. All i know, is that I once saw him go through the process. His enchantment table only went up to level 30, but he would walk back and forth between his enchantment table and anvil. Somehow he was able to get insane enchantments by doing this.

He REFUSES to tell me how he does this. Does anyone know how this is possible? What mod is it a part of? Am I missing something? This is driving me nuts!

if you enchant 2 picks with efficiency 4 and conbine them in the anvil you get 5

also works if instead of 2 picks you use a pick and a book.

I dont know if there is currently a mod that adds enchants higher than "V" (5), you can however enchant things with "X" (10) via NEI or worldedit filters or (not sure) through OP console commands

They are definitely level X enchantments. I'm certain he did not use NEI or commands, I have the logs as proof, and he does no have the sever so he can't edit the world.

This seems more likely, but I still don't think this is the method. If he did this, he would have many books left over, trying to get the right book. He had little or no bi-products left over. And this still seems like it would require an incredible amount of levels to get to lv 10 enchantment. He's been doing it with around 40 levels i think.

TooManyItems had this feature to enchant something up to X level when you spawned it in, not sure if that works in FTB as i have never tried

Is it your server?

Tell him he's been suspected of exploiting (cause he has kinda) and make him show you how he does it, and you can take it from there if you ban him or not.

As far as I'm aware it's simply not possible to legitimately obtain level 10 enchantments - the anvil is capped at level 5 for most things. The only way I know of is to use the NEI cheat function, which only Ops would have access to.

If they are level X that means he uses NEI (while in inventory press X and you will be able to enchant your Whatever object with X enchants) and the server log does not show that, remove him frop OP, that will work.

Aha! I bet your're right! I got him to agree to ban the use of this. He insists that his method "costs" something, but he could easily be lying. Thanks for the help everyone!
