While I'm waiting for Thaumcraft 6 to drop, and with everyone playing Sky Factory 3, I decided to try to convert my small custom 1.10.2 pack to a skyblock. If I were serious, I'd definitely have to adjust the loot and drop tables for loot bags & Ex Nihilo to make some mods playable/useful, especially early game. I'd also skip the wooden shears mod & just give the player a charged Ender IO magnet & empowered dark steel shears as starting items. The Clay Bucket mod's bucket doesn't seem to pick up lava from the Ex Nihilo crucibles, & I don't know what mod adds the clay bucket in SF3. As far as I can tell, Fast Leaf Decay seems to speed up the effect of the Ex Nihilo silkworm.
With Ore Excavation (like Veinminer), I wanted my manual cobble gen to provide more than 1 block at a time, so I went with a row of 8. Working from the lava side, most of the block flew into the lava & got destroyed, hence the magnet & access through the waterfall. I also have a row of stone barrels feeding cobble to a row of crucibles on top of the lava for lava production with plenty of cobble left to feed an alloy smelter for stone & an auto hammer/sieve set up. There is also automated obsidian & semi-automated soul sand production feeding off the water & lava lines.
