Hello readers!

I made an underground tree farm for Steve's Carts. Made alot of plans for it, even a railway system (you can see a little bit of it on the left in the picture). I have one problem though: the trees are not growing AT ALL! I tried a stack of bonemeal on one in the middle and it didn't grow. Even not when I tried with torches or a Lilypad of Fertility. I hope you guys can help me.

That's a pretty brightly lit underground area you have there. Am I guessing right that you have a wrathlamp sitting above?

Wrathlamps achieve their amazing lighting by filling the area with invisible air-like blocks that emit light. Unfortunately, a tree checks specifically for air to determine if it has room to grow. And if it finds those invisible wrathlight blocks, it'll say "meh, no room, I won't grow".

Basically, don't put wrathlamps anywhere near treefarms. Just fill the gaps between the saplings with torches, that will provide enough light for the trees to grow, and to prevent monster spawns.

What are you using to light the area? From what little I can see if you are using wrath lamps that may be your problem. I would suggest glowstone or glowstone bricks under your tracks. With your current track layout the glow stone should light it well enough to prevent spawns.

Thanks for the hint! I'll try it tomorrow. I've tried these tree farms before and the trees always grew like there was no tomorrow, but I didn't know this.

You can replace the dirt that doesn't have trees on it with something like glowstone and ditch the wrath lamps. Stick a magnum torch somewhere in the area so you don't have to worry about areas that aren't quite bright enough to stop mobs.
