I've been wanting to get back into modded minecraft, and have been looking at monster for a while, but there have been two things stopping me, the main one being i love my old world back from the last updates the mindcrack pack got. it was biomes a plenty type of world if that helps. what mod pack would be the easiest to move the world to, taking into consideration when i quit i didn't do anything mod related, just getting resources.

If there was a guide up for the mod pack you recommend, that would be appreciated, been out of touch with mods for a while.

tbh there's so much new stuff in 1.6.4 packs you'd be better starting a new world.

A lot of mods that add ores to worldgen you just can't function without.

If I walk into new terrain new ores will generate right? I am fine with any pack as long as the general terrain on the surface is unharmed around my old base. I am just wanting the pack with least conflicts with mindcrack.

No, I really wouldn't advise doing that, though FTB Monster is very good.

Migrating old world will end in pain.

It's best just to start a new world. The attachment you have to your old world can be a hindrance. It gives you an opportunity to revise your entire gameplan.

That's the second time I've gotten pinged in this thread so I guess it's time for me to post something. :p

@madnewmy has done a great job of writing up that RotaryCraft guide. I've used it a bit to get past some steps in RotaryCraft and it's quite helpful.

@RealSketch knows what he's talking about with mods, and his guide is extremely detailed.

And (shameless self-plug) my Blood Magic guide covers everything in the mod except spells and alchemy, which have actually been detailed pretty extensively in the last three or so pages of discussion. It's also about half documented on the Official FTB Wiki.

Rotarycraft is one of those things i've toyed with a little bit but never dived into in enough depth to give a decent opinion. Doesn't help that the first engines I tried to use blew up and made me use buildcraft as a curse word.

I'd second Mev's opinion regarding giving Monster a 2nd, 3rd and even 4th thought and then backing slowly away. Some of the mod choices are...a bit odd in that pack. TPPI seems to have a bit of everything, although if you've not been playing for a while, you might want to jump into the DW20 1.6.4 pack, as it has all the (what I consider) 'core' mods, and should get you back up to speed.

Don't listen to the TPPI people. As much as I have respect for them, Monster has many new mods and it's a good idea to add a few mods that you'll particularly miss to monster. In addition, TPPI makes many "Balances" that just make no sense and make the game less fun. It makes GT bearable, but that's about it. In addition, it does not have some remarkable new mods, such as RotaryCraft.
TPPI has a few extra mods, but I feel like it stops people from trying packs like Horizons and Monster that have a lot of fun new mods.[DOUBLEPOST=1398133961][/DOUBLEPOST]Oh, and the RoC starting guide was remarkably good, @madnewmy.

Monster has too much bloat. How many of you enjoy Reika's other ten mods? For me RoC is the only enjoyable one. To say TPPI has no new remarkable mods is so untrue, it has a great mixture of old and new. Does Monster have FZ, or AM2? IMHO the only thing I'm envious of Monster players for is RoC and routing Logistics Pipes through itemducts. TPPI's balance choices are great and really well thought out, in no way do they make the game less fun.

Another word about TPPI and I'll 'ave you.

Yay, another redstone sink to generate power using redstone for a mod that's already a redstone sink.
One sec, lemme check what "Well thought out" means...
You TPPI people, almost as bad as Linux snobs.
(Yes that was meant to seem offensive. If you don't get that you can't take a joke.)
