Greetings;

I'm fairly new to the forums here although I've been actually using them for a few months now. Great resource. This is also how I came to use FTB. Another great resource. These two things, coupled with the power of the internet, allowed me to create this: NCC-1962

Of note: I have tested this on several texture packs, but ironically enough the one it runs best with is the Minewars packs. (Grin)

Here is the primary photo album of it thus far: Ship Album

I would love to get feedback on this and accept any questions you may have.
Thanks!

The back story on the ship can be found here. You will find a full description including mods used and of course, kudo's for FTB!

There's something wonky with your FOV that makes a lot of those screenshots really ugly. One screenshot looks like the saucer is round-ish and the next makes it look like it just lost a battle with a fat man's rectum.

The FOV issues represent using different packs and a slight issue I had due to the scale of the ship in getting it to appear completely in the frame. Chunks didn't load the whole length of the ship so seeing the whole thing at once was a little trying. You have to fly around the ship, come back and then snap a shot. As far as the night shots, a lot of those were to highlight the lighting as well as the scale because during the day its hard to see the full length and scale of the ship.[DOUBLEPOST=1364565090][/DOUBLEPOST]Besides, you're picking at my photography work, while I'm sitting here wondering what you think about the ship itself. ;)

It's a bit flat, and unicolor, those are my two problems with your ship.

Not saying I would even be able to do as much, but you asked what we are thinking about it.

Basically, it's big, but there are so many big and flat areas, and way too much of the same block over and over, it doesn't make it look nearly as cool as you wanted.

I'm not sure I follow. Uni-color? Red, White and Blue are its primary colors. The outer hull should be painted like a Partridge Family bus?

I do realize there are still empty spaces within the ship as I am still 'decorating' and such throughout. It is not fully complete yet.[DOUBLEPOST=1364568839][/DOUBLEPOST]Oh and thanks for the thoughts! Keep'em coming!

I looked back through the album, and there are quite a few day time shots, none of which were viewed. :p[DOUBLEPOST=1364571397][/DOUBLEPOST]

I did realize that I sometimes had it set for 'quake mode' as I used to play that back in the day. I believe you'll notice a shift in that throughout the pictures, and I am now using normal FOV regularly. You have to realize, I just discovered MC about 3 months ago so there has been a lot of experimentation and discovery done during ship construction.

All I'm saying, with the ability from NEI to make it always day/noon, no reason to really have any night shots at all. Also, the bandwidth/load time from that site is pretty horrid and the album takes a long time to load, let alone change pages. Which is why I never bothered to go to any other page, I actually almost closed the tab before seeing the first page.

That said it looks decent and probably better than what I'd be able to pull off.

Ah, but with it always daylight, you'd get no real good sense of the running lights, and other amenities. ;)

I'm glad and sad to hear about the bandwidth. I will investigate that as it should be fairly good.

Thank you I appreciate that, however I bet you could do something just as mind blowing if its mental image inspires you enough. :D[DOUBLEPOST=1364605049][/DOUBLEPOST]Glad because its my site so its good to get feedback on its performance. Sad because that's not the feedback one wants to hear. ;)

You were correct that there was something amiss. I did some cache tweaking and I am now noticing an increase in performance. Please check it out and see. The pictures should load a bit better for you.

I'd appreciate any further feedback on it if you experience any issues. You can private message me or email me from the site directly to keep this uncluttered. Otherwise, explore the album and poke about the ship. Ask questions, discuss. :D

Frankly I'm rather surprised at how few people have view and or commented. Considering how much this forum gets used, it was rather anti-climactic to post here. I had higher hopes for reviews (good or bad).

You might not have gotten as many reactions because of the weekend. I only really checked in to see if any of my watched threads had updated. Didn't really browse much.

I think the project is awesome. I'm a big Trek fan, but I've never really had the wherewithall to recreate anything from it in Minecraft. I tend to do more fantasy oriented builds because castles are easier to make with blocks than nacels. God help anyone who tries to do DS9 - so many curves on that sucker.

Trekkie quibble: I think you seriously need to tack on a "-B" or even C or D onto your hull number. With a hull number of 1962, the ship was almost certainly commissioned in 2293 (same year as the Enterprise B). Holodecks were not standard issue on Federation ships for almost another century. Indeed, the Enterprise D (the ship from TNG) having one was a remarkable trait when it was first launched in 2364. If your ship were a refit, it would make sense to have a holodeck and a low hull number. Since your ship appears to be an Excelsior-class, you wouldn't even need to tweak the design. It was popular from its introduction in the late 2200s all through the 24th century.

I also feel obligated to point out that to properly be Ten Forward it must be on deck 10, which is the ground floor on your ship. I know it's a nitpick, but calling it a mess hall or lounge would be more accurate.

Side note: I assume you've seen the mega-build of the 1:1 scale recreation of the Enterprise-D using just vanilla? If not there are some videos on youtube where you get a bit of a tour. It's pretty crazy.

The Trek is strong with this one!

I think its neat that you did this but in terms of scale I believe there would be more room for detail and proper perspective if the ship was built to a larger scale. Curves and circles are difficult to create in minecraft unless you build large. You picked a ship from the Star Trek universe, which by definition is a plethora of ships made almost exclusively in cylinders, ovals, curves and circles.

I do not downplay the technical attributes of the build, but it just doesn't float my boat at its present scale... or rather it doesn't engage my warp drive adequately.

Targetable Phasers? How? Also tell me this thing moves. That would make it the most EPIC base ever.

Pretty cool. Far better than anything I could turn out.

But.... The problem with projects like this is unless they are fricking huge. And I mean omg my pc can't render the entire ship huge, you end up with a blocky representation. (yes I know it's a limitation of the game)

Have you tried to soften it up with micro blocks at all. All in all you chose a hard task. To represent a ship that is born of curves and smooth polished surfaces using square blocks. So credit where credit is due that it's recognisable.

Other than micro blocks I think Huge scale is the only way to get the effect you were after.
Still, don't be discouraged. You asked what we thought. It still stands on it's own as a good effort.

Also you said your new to the forums. So I don't know how new you are to modded MC or MC in general.
But there is a lot of this sort of thing out there and the bar is set very very high.
Many here will be judgeing it against amazing things they've seen that seem impossible builds. To be seen to be believed type of builds. So keep that in mind. Your being judged against some amazing things.
