I'm having a issue with my new laptop, its got a Core i5 2.3/2.3 and 8Gb of RAM. I've allocated 7Gb of RAM to minecraft via the FTB launcher but I'm still getting +/-10 FPS. On my old laptop that was also an i5 2.4/2.4 with only 4Gb of RAM I was getting 40-60 FPS with only 3Gb allocated via the FTB launcher. Is there any suggestions to my delima?

That didnt work, I'm set to Tiny render distance, Minimal particals, 3.5 Gb, i've disabled all startup programs via msconfig. I'm running out options short of going back to the old laptop.

I used to play FTB on a 2.4GHz dual core laptop and only got 20fps on a good day, laptops in general are pretty crappy for playing FTB since it's a very CPU-intensive game and laptops usually have integrated graphics.
I literally melted the graphics of that laptop (even when using a cooler) and killed it because it just couldn't cope.

If you have a discrete GPU (versus simply CPU integrated graphics) make sure you have the java process (not just minecraft) set to use you higher end GPU.

@Christophernjsp optifine is not supported, as far as i've read on the forums, plus other people have had problems with it. I usually play the DW20 pack. @TheMechEngineer like i said my other laptop got 30-40FPS on normal distance/decreased particals. @InThayne how would you go about checking that, even though I just have integrated graphics.

OK, I'll ask the obvious question here. What pack? What version?
If you are going with one of the new 1.7 packs, have you tried fastcraft?
If not, have you made any modifications to the pack you were previously playing?

*NOTE* Optifine is hit or miss. Some people find it helps, others find it hinders. Can't hurt to give it a try.

@Cptqrk the pack is DW20, version, recommended, no modifications before new computer or after. I have not tried fastcraft (not sure what it is)

What was the old laptop and what's the new one? Looking for the GFX card specs specifically. If they are the 'same', what driver version are you running?

@drellen Old: HP Elitebook 8440p with 2Gb integrated RAM and a 2Gb chip
OS: Technical preview of Windows 10
New: HP Probook 6560b with 2 - 4Gb Ram Chips
OS: Technical preview of Windows 10
both have integrated video cards

Based on the specs, I have 2 guesses.
1 - The old laptop had the discrete GFX option and the new one has the integrated Intel one only.
or
2 - Some sort of driver misconfig.

Note -If they BOTH had only the integrated GFX card, i would doubly suspect a driver issue.
