[Soul Shards] What does the vile sword do?

I have genuinely no idea (apart from the obvious killing mobs). I made one and it is pretty darn expensive, but doesn't seem to give any buff or special effect, as hinted by the forum post. Does anyone know what it does?

The vile sword can be enchanted with the soulstealer enchantment which adds kills to your sould shard with every kill. A vile sword with a Soulstealer II will give you 3 kills on your soul shard for each mob you kill.

Oh that makes more sense, is it a guaranteed enchantment at lvl 30?

I don't believe so. I was playing around in creative and didn't receive the enchantment when I did a lvl 30 enchant. You can get it on books and then apply it that way too.

I thought this was the only way to get the soulstealer enchant, until I got it on my "green sapphire" sword.

So afaik there is nothing special about the vile swords. I could be wrong but I haven't had an issue getting it on any swords and I have yet to use an enchanted book yet. I simply made an xp farm by farming skeleton spawners in the thaumcraft dungeons.

yeah, that's what I thought too. But since I got this sword I quit wasting Iron ore making the corrupted fragments, until/unless something changes.

Vile Swords are the only swords to get Soul Stealer. The gem swords receiving that enchant too is a bug according to shadw himself and has supposedly been fixed in 1.17 or 1.18 or so, so you might want to update.

I got soul stealer II on enchant level 8, I do remember in one of his vids that Shadw said that you can only get as high as level 4 and can combine two 4 swords to get a 5 and that is as high as it goes. I would stick to lower level enchants maybe 8 to 16 to see what you get level 30 is not always good enchants... I have gotten knockback II at 30

it's ^this. the soul stealer enchantment was supposed to only work on the vile swords, but due to a bug the enchantment could also be gotten on other swords and it'll be fixed in future releases.
so that should make the sword less expensive, or well, more useful xD

TY and totally agree. Just paid 9 lvls and got one with Soul Stealer II Sharpness II and Fire Aspect.

I made and enchanted a Diamond sword in the period where it was bugged (I've since updated) and I will not give up my Soul Stealer IV, Sharpness III, Vorpal II sword don't care if it's a buggy item it's pretty and it's sweet
