Soul Shards: Question?

Using a soul cage spawner my soul shard does not absorb the souls from it. Only vanilla spawns. Is this a bug or intended ?
 
Mobs spawned from soul cages don't have souls. If they did, as soon as you got a soul cage up you could use it to easily farm as many more spawners as you want. They want to force you to go out and work for the eventual convenience of the soul cages.
