So..lets say you have a Tier 4 pig soul shard & a enderman tier 3 soul shard.

You want to increase the enderman shard... so in anvil left side enderman tier 3..right side tier 4 pig = tier 4 enderman?

Does it work like that?

Yes, it works like that. Assuming you don't have a fixed version of the mod that prevents their use with anvils.

Well, it works almost like that. Rather, the total number of souls from both shards are added together, then a bonus is added on top of THAT, so odds are what you'll actually end up with is a tier 5 enderman shard. The resulting type is whatever you put in the left slot, and you get to preview the result before you collect it from the anvil.

Though it beats me what you'd do with one of those. Due to their ability to teleport, you really want to isolate such a spawner as much as possible - which is easiest to do in the End, where the enderman spawn rates are through the roof anyway (move away from the main island a bit and it becomes very easy to control their spawning regardless as to whether you're using soul shards at all).

I am just fooling around and the end man happened to be the first mob I encountered lol. Though I was on this vanilla server once that had an ender farm where they weren't teleporting around so how is that possible being a vanilla server and all. If you make a cage out of a tier five and destroy it, what do you get back?

Well, if you just spawn the endermen at a sufficient height within an enclosed tower, they won't teleport anywhere and will simply fall to their deaths (preferably on a floor of transposers or something similar). I use a setup like this all the time and have yet to have a rogue enderman.

Also, getting a tier 5 enderman shard legitimately is really quite easy if you just go to the End. There's no big need to use the anvil exploit IMO...

EDIT:

You will get the tier 5 shard back. (No cage.)
EDIT again: Yes cage. Just not with the shard still inside it.

In my experience you get both the cage and the shard back, though the tool used might affect this (I use a mining drill at present). Though I gather there's an issue where destroying a cage with a wither skeleton shard in it nets you back a regular skeleton one.

Endermen can only teleport a certain distance, and can't teleport onto blocks that're covered in water.

Destroying a SS spawner will net you the cage and the shard. HOWEVER, the shard will contain the minimum number of souls for that tier. For example, if the shard originally contained 700 souls, was put into a spawner and removed again, it will only contain 512 souls (the minimum for T4). I think this is due to the spawner block not containing the actual original shard, but instead being transformed by it. Or something.

So to say I could make the end man spawner and get a ton of pearls. Then destroy, farm blazes in the nether and make a blaze farm...or what would be a useful aggressive spawner?

Most aggressive mobs are useful. It's more a question of what you CAN'T do with soul shards: They won't collect iron golem souls, for example, regardless of whether you hunt them from villages or kill ones you constructed yourself. Nor do they deal with boss mobs, nor most mobs from mods (eg the Twilight Forest).

Although they don't collect villagers, they can nab villager zombies and witches.

Wither skeletons give coal, along with bones and (rather less useful) damaged stone swords.

Coal can be macerated to dust, and a stack + eight gravel + one chunk of obsidian = a diamond. Bones are always useful for wood production. And assuming they're still dropping heads for you, the ability to summon the Wither at will is always handy.

This, except it doesn't need to be enclosed. Enderman cannot teleport while falling. Which is pretty illogical for a creature that lives in the end.

I dont' really want to make something in the sky if this is probably going to be a temp thing. So Can I make a box throw water on top so it pours all over top and sides and bottom....than like small entrance for me (maybe even make a tesla coil....)

Quicksand.

My Enderman spawner is only about 8 blocks high. They land, are immediately stuck and cannot teleport away.

One layer of quicksand with two layers of air beneath will quickly suffocate the emen, and you can (carefully) collect the pearls underneath or use a redpower setup to collect the drops.

enderman can teleport while falling if they have sky above them, i originally had glass above my enderman spawner and they were teleporting away in the day, put slabs over the top instead of glass and hey presto no more teleporting.

to obtain souls faster make a vile sword and enchant it with soul stealer enchant.

i also believe the anvil trick/glitch works by combining soul shards that contain 1 soul in each(means more shards tho)
you can also take a tier 5 skeleton(can be obtained via dungeon trap) spawner and combine with a shard containing 1 soul of desired mob.

If I remember correctly, quicksand is found in the mini-jungle biome added by EXBL rather than vanilla jungles - usually in 3x2(x2?) rectangles dotted all over the place.
