I recommend the applied energistics wiki. AS a quick list of what you'll need, to pull you want an import bus on the right side, to put in, export bus on the top/left side. Can't remember which for putting in, should be top.
I recomend the Checking the External Crafting part of the AE wiki. That's the best explanation you'll get with the least amount of work.
AE isn't, but Gregtech is. RP2 has the same thing. You've got to pump A into the Top, B into the bottom and pull out of the side. Try it with the IndBlast Furnace for example. Refined Iron in the top and coal dust in the bottom.
If all else fails, look up GT sidedness, and one of them will be an auto-export side, which will dump into an inventory, including ME interfaces.
On the other hand, you could just set the Import to be Precise and take out only plates, then it will ignore ingots.

Most GregTech machine also allow now to change the output side. Use a wrench and click (or was it shift-click?) the side you want and it should mark this new output side with a square.
