I have this issue, exclusively while using the mindcrack pack. I get about 32fps normally, but when I open my inventory, a chest, or pretty much anything with a gui, my fps drops to 3-5 for several seconds. If I close the gui fairly quickly, the fps drop remains for roughly the same amount of time.

I am using windows xp pro, running java 7 on a pentium 4 2.80ghz cpu, with 2.5 gigs of ram. My gpu is an ATI radeon HD 3400. And before you spam me with ''get a real computer'' replys, it runs dw20 pack just fine and vanilla mc flawlessly.

I have asked around a bit, but haven't found any help with this issue, so any help at all would be appreciated.

P.s. I am running optifine, lowest video settings, mc is the only process running. Oddly enough, when I raise javas priority the fps issue goes away, but my mouse will be laggy for about the same amount of time. I believe opening the inventory is causing a massive cpu spike for whatever reason.

Theres nothing to see in the logs, aside from the occasional sprite loading, but that doesn't coincide with the lag. However, things have improved, slightly, with the nei(1.4.5.1) and chicken bones core(0.7.1.0) update, and I can still play on standard mindcrack servers with the updates installed. I still get a little bit of lag, but its less severe overall, I can enjoy the game again. I don't understand where the lag came from in the first place, since afaik mindcrack and dw20 share the same versions of nei and chickenbones.

If you still think logs will help, i'll upload some from a playing session, maybe theres something going on in the initialization phase that is causing trouble.

edit: I'm calling this one fixed with the updates to nei. If you have this problem, update your nei and chickenbones people. Lag issues went from unplayably bad to hardly noticeable. Idk what chickenbones fixed, the changelogs arent that specific, but I am happy again.

I had this happen too on the dw20 pack. I had thrown out NEI completely and noticed the lag was gone.
Then I added NEI again and the lag was still gone.

Puzzled I looked at the /mods dir and discovered that the NEI plugins and the NEI redpower plugin were gone. These seemed to be the culprits.

I reinstalled the NEI plugins and the lag was minimal, I don't use the redpower one anymore cause I think that one was causing the lag.
