Hey, i've been playing monster for a while now, but every 5 seconds or so, the frames go from 90 FPS to 10 FPS, this has started to really annoy me, I installed optifine, and enabled all the smoothing feautures, but still the same thing, here are my specs.
AMD FX-6300 Six-Core Processor 3.50GHz
RAM : 8GB
64-bit windows 8
GTX 660
Any help would be appreciated.

How much RAM is being dedicated? What version of Java do you have, and is it 64-bit?

And I suggest getting rid of Optifine. It causes more problems than it fixes, and most mod authors will not provide any support with it installed.

Thanks for the quick response, I have a 64-bit java, and 5.5 gigs of ram dedicated, going to try running it without optifine now.

Drop RAM to a max of 4 GB. I run it on a computer with worse specs (I can't remember what they are off the top of my head) with 2.5 GB dedicated and it runs at a steady 90 FPS. Anything more than 4 GB and you'll start to have issues with Java.

I think this is a base flaw in MC that you possible only just noticed now because before the drops in FPS were not so distinct.
I have had the same problem on and off for ages and have tried everything. Nothing removes this behaviour of building up lots of memory then dumping it all and once causing a fps drop and repeating the process.

Running smaller packs and without texture packs will reduce the fps impact to a point where you might no longer notice them when playing, but it is still going on. Having more powerful systems might also raise the bar for when they become noticeable, but wont prevent them. Stems down to that MC is programmed in Java I think and not in a proper engine.

And your problem could in part be cause by having 5.5GB allocated. Drop it down to 2.5GB without texturepack or 3GB with texturepack(x64).

4GB is still too much IMO with only 8GB total. Your JAVA client will use around double of what you allocate after having run for a while. If you run out of memory you start relying a lot on pagefile which is your HDD. This is hopefully slow and will slow/stutter your fps as well.

Try and open your Taskmanager, then Performance tab, click Resource Monotor:
The look if you actually got any free memory when playing. Standby doesnt count a free.
If there is no Free memory, to go Disk tab and have a look, if there is a ton of traffic called "Pagefile" you are slowing your system down immensely by allocating 4GB for no good reason(More is not better)
