Hello,
This thread is dedicated to offering alternatives to people with color-blindness. If you find a mod that uses colours that you cannot see clearly feel free to reply to this topic and I will try and come up with a solution.
Below are some solutions that already exist:
- Thermal Expansion - Machines:
In the config folder there is a folder called cofh, and within this there is a config file called 'ThermalExpansion.cfg'.
Within this file you will find this:
general {
B:ColorBlindTextures=false
change this to this if you have difficulty with the colors for the thermal expansion machines.
general {
B:ColorBlindTextures=true
- Buildcraft - Diamond Pipes:
For these I changed the GUI to show the direction that the color is found on. For instance, the black row has a 'D' on it to explain that the black part of a diamond pipe always faces downwards.
The replaced GUI can be found here:

Once downloaded firstly you must rename it to 'filter.png'.
Next, go to your mods folder. Then open your buildcraft.jar file with a file archiver like WinRAR.
Navigate to '\gfx\buildcraft\gui' . Next drag and drop the downloaded GUI (filter.png) and drop it into this folder. It will ask you something along the lines of "Would you like to replace this file?" and just choose yes. Congratulations, the color-blind GUI will now be ingame!
Eventually, I hope that Buildcraft will add its own color-blind option, similar to Thermal Expansion. This post will hopefully raise the awareness of this issue for many players (including myself).
I hope this post will help people who have color-blindness.
Quick Update: I have requested that the colors are changed on Buildcraft Diamond Pipes for both the pipe itself and the GUI, you can see this GitHub Issue here: https://github.com/BuildCraft/BuildCraft/issues/1176
If you can comment on it, it would be greatly appreciated.
