So I'm playing on a server, dw20 pack. I had taken a break from it because I had zero inspiration. I had a basically unlimited amount of supplies etc. Well the server got rest for 1.5. Oh goody!
Excited as I am now, I hop down to the local spawn and off I go. I decide I'll make things interesting this time. I'm going to attempt the city building challenge. Honestly I figure hey this will be cool. I got a lot of what's that? Oh you're crazy where's my (insert next tech gizmo to place in my bland 9x9). A few people have style. @alovard has a great little ic2 setup starting and his stuff is always aesthetically pleasing.
Anyways, I start going on a fellow from the infinity server I was playing with gets on. Asks if he could join me. I'm about halfway through stage one. Enjoying the challenge of wooden tools. I'm really looking the focus on building and food production at the front end and using tech as a reward.
I tell him what I'm doing and as long as he follows the rules he is welcome to join in. He says sure and moves his stuff over. Generators, ender io machines. I asked him if he read the challenge. He said oh it's just there for when I get to that point. No he's not doing it. I asked him to leave or at last put all his toss on the basement out of site. I hoped he might help build a wall out correct cobblestone etc. He claimed he had no interest in participating. Long story short, I end up moving all my stuff and starting over. I bent a few rules at the new place to get back where I was and continue forward.
He gave me a lot of cheap and constantly was trying to push me either out of the challenge or into the next phase. As such, I'm kind of glad I moved. I made an awesome house. It was a two story split level. I'll post a picture in a bit. However after he moved, my structures where less awesome and more boxes. I didn't take in the challenge to get rushed through boxes.
If my imagination and tasks are going to end up with a bunch of rectangles in a circle what's the point?
The last straw was when he converted my manual wheat and tree farms to mfr farms after I asked him not to. I said screw it and left. I found a garden biome and am working on building quality buildings. Other people can scoff all they want. "I don't gave the patience for that", "I want to hurry up to the next toy so I can get this or get my ae online". Why? Is it a race? What's the point? What are you doing with that 70k iron ingots? Or that giant big reactor with 4 turbines when you only use about 10k rf/t? Especially I'd it's just... There? Where are all the builders at?
Modded was supposed to make getting the resources and keeping up with the tendium so you could focus on creating. It shows you the tools to create. Instead so many just rush after the next gizmo fast as possible.
Don't get me wrong... If you are enjoying playing that way and that makes you happy, then great. Don't mess up my fun because I find pleasure in doing an activity which you don't deem worthy of on the server.
