Bonus point to those who's snowballing project involved a glacial percipitator.
I ended up using one of those to make snowbound blocks for my castle floor.

Said snowball castle started in 1.5.2. I attempted it in about 4 different servers before the avalanche expired in a mound of Computer Craft code a couple months ago.
Now i have a well fortified 128x128 mob proof area to work in.

Call me when someone figures out how to not have every project snowball. My longest world ever was in the 1.4.7 days running a customized version of Ultimate. I kept scaling up and then running into bottlenecks. Mostly it was a cycle of not enough power, create more power gen, spend more power on more resources and machines, not enough power, create more power gen. . .

My projects tend to not snow ball?
But that may be because i tend to plan it out.
EDIT: Or it could be that I tend to call smaller parts of a goal projects?
Could be a terminology thing

For example
Create smeltery, have cobble gen, feed cobble gen into smeltery, use seared stone to autocraft seared bricks, expand smeltery.

That was a simple project that didn't snowball, I later came back and optimised it, but that original project didn't snowball

I guess some mods and modpacks are just more prone to snowballing projects than others.

For instance, I watch every episode of TDKPyrostatis's Agrarian Skies LP on youtube. He's absolutely terrible at it, and the result is a lot of cussing. Its fun to watch.

Recently he really needs Ender pearls, so he learns that a certain Mariculture fish can produce them. He builds a giant fishtank, fills it with water, looks at the next requirement: wut, it needs Ender pearls too? Well, scrap that project.

Something similar to this happens to me when I target a specific GregTech machine. My project will be "Build Industrial Grinder", which requires some sort of Plating which can only be created with materials from some other machine. And that machine requires another machine, and so on. Terrible, wonderful frustration :)

My general minecraft experience goes like this:

I want to build something magnificent, and explore dungeons and strongholds to find enchanted items and books to enchant my items.
I need diamond gear, so I start digging.
Digging turns out to be a pain, so i switch to modded minecraft so I can get automatic digging.
Automatic digging required power, and item storage, power requires some kind of automatic farming.

Now, i am quite deep into the game, still have not been exploring, or concentrated on my grand-build-a-castle project and 40levels are burning a hole in my pocket - so we expand sideways into farming cows to get leather to make books to make an enchanting room.
Then the first enchants are crap so I need more XP for more enchants so I build a mob spawner/grinder and a whole automated enchanting setup.

And eventually ive finished all my automtion of everything, have my jetpacks and tech armor,

and realize that going searching for dungeons and strongholds is an entirely pointless en devour as nothing I can find can come close to what I can get my AE ME system to produce at the push of a button. And the labrynth of rooms I have built to store all this tech far exceed in size and magnificence any castle I could try to produce...

So I reset my world and say to myself - this time. This time I am going to explore a stronghold! So I start digging for diamonds. And realize what a PITA that is...

I am at the point once again in my world that everything is going to snowball. I need a true mob drop trap for recharging thaumcraft wands, an updated and improved power generation room, and I finally need to finish out my high oven build for processing all my ores. To do this though, I have to redo my item storage add I am pretty well maxed out. I also have to tear down the old section of my base to make room for all the new stuff. Lots of fun!
