I wonder how many others have stories like this one, a project which started small and soon came to snowball out of control.

It all began with my dislike of two common features of automatic mining: that the auto-mining systems I knew at the time couldn't mine with Silk Touch or Fortune (the one that could (Arcane Bore) was extremely complicated to automate and used up tools too fast) and that my quarries churned up the landscape.

So, I thought, let's go to the Deep Dark. There I can mine without destroying anything that looks nice. I'll think about automating the Arcane Bore later. Now how to find that damned Division Sigil. OK, RotaryCraft has a cave scanner, and it sounds interesting so let's install that... and while I'm at it, with my long-term plans it might be good to install ReactorCraft on top.

(Some time later): wow, this is cool stuff (explores some more RoC), maybe the bedrock tools can even help me with the problem with the Arcane Bore. I could use the RoC Miner which actually does what I want but I don't like its style.

Drat, those machines need lubricant (sets up a canola farm with Thaumcraft golems). Hmm...not enough space in my fluid storage room. I wanted to rebuild that anyway and use better tanks (goes on to (re)build half a dozen 2KB Railcraft steel tanks and rewires the LP system to use them). While I'm at it, just add a tank for the mob essence I'm going to need somewhen I'm sure.

OOOhhh K. Between the extractor I'm going to use for ore processing as soon as the next mining operation starts and the bedrock breaker, I need more energy (goes on to build a 5MW solar tower). And Tesseracts. I'm going to need more of those and they're complicated to make, so I'm going to automate their production.

(some time later) Well, that tower works nicely, but it's not so nice that it doesn't produce much during the night. So...what about a Mystcraft age with eternal daylight?

(A few explored ages later) Hmm, finding those pages takes more time than I anticipated, but I've found some cool worlds. Let's create age #9. Oh....I'm out of....ink sacs? Didn't I have two stacks not so long ago? Never thought I'd have to create an ink farm. Unfortunately, no "ink block" page either and I don't recall having seen a black ProjectRed tree ever in my world.

So now I'm going to automate ink production. Fortunately I already have a solid-block enclosure with a MFR rancher (the sheep and chicken kept escaping the fences so used one layer of cobble and one layer of Paving Stones of Warding). I have 2000+ wool in my ME network so the sheep can take a vacation. Hopefully, I just need to add water and squids. Sometimes I remind myself why I started doing all this, and can only shake my head.

If others have similar stories, I'd love to hear them.

The funny thing is we all start by hacking trees and mining cobble.

End game? Automating massive farms to generate wood and turning cobble back into stone. GG, full circle.
LOL, so true. It never occurred to me to think of things that way.

I actually keep notes now because otherwise, by the time I'm half way through Step 14B of Project MegaWhatsIt, I've forgotten what the hell I was trying to accomplish in the first place.

I'm liable to end up with piles and piles of some resource and no idea what its for.

Started doing this as well, a while back. It's really bloody helpful.

This is where a to-do list comes in handy ;)

Until the game decides there's a single block of floor that isn't slab and isn't lit enough and spawns a creeper in it, which comes and ruins everything.

I wonder if you started it because of a GregTech project like I did. Boy can those ever spiral out of control.
Actually, it was because I started doing the Refuge to Regent Challenge and wanted to do it in full without getting too off track.
...The fact that I have one for GT, RoC, and other complex mods has nothing to do with why I use these now, I assure you. *shifty eyes*

I'm using the BiblioCraft clipboard. Nice in-game way for keeping track of things.

I will have to check out the clipboard, or just place a sign on the wall and remind myself of what I am supposed to be doing.

I am remodeling while living in my home, so it is rather nightmarish. I have 3 or 4 different projects going on at once.

I am in AS, and have all my sifting on hold at the moment while I rebuild it all. I've decided to use TE tubes for most things (easier to hide) and AE for the long hauls and general item storage.

Even with that, it is hard to get everything situated. I am trying to work in aestetics while I build.

I had to set up a temporary home for my AE system as the area I eventually want to use for it is hosting other things at the moment (needs to be torn down but I still depend on it at the moment for materials).

It's hard getting everything built in the right order. I have 4 or 5 different processing areas set up and just waiting for me to plug in AE to make it all work.

I need more AE cable, which means more redstone, which means more sifting, which means I have to process it and everything else produced, then actually store it which means more AE setup.

...There's a hole in the bucket dear Liza, dear Liza.

Don't I know that.
(1) Need more powerful AM2 spells. Summon the Earth Warden to get more green skill points.
(2) Fight the Wither to get the Division Sigil. I wonder if Warded material is still immune to the Wither explosions. Since 4.10g the Wand Focus only requires a Nether Cube, not a Nether Star, and I already have it.
(3) Build a mobtrap. Believe it or not, I don't have one yet.
(4) Create a mystcraft age for solar energy production.
(5) Rebuild my tank room. It's encroaching on my main elevator (Thaumcraft levitators), which is one of the few things which can't be moved without basically rebuilding the whole base.
(6) Automate RoC bedrock mining just for the heck of it (apparently it was intended to be not automatable, or at least not easily automatable, but I found a way around that)
(7) Find out why the squids on my ink farm are escaping their confinement. Alternative: make a farm of black ProjectRed trees.
(8) Long-term project: fully automate the Arcane Bore for deep underground mining. Mods involved: Thaumcraft, RotaryCraft, MFFS-C, Thermal Expansion, ProjectRed, Buildcraft.

MFFS-C?

Is that C for Classic or Calclavia?

I would use the C. I will always give the additional letter to the inferior version. Also Calclavia's version is just called MFFS, whereas Classic (which is a remake) is known as MFFS Classic.

I meant Calclavia. Sorry. I knew MFFS (the old one) when it came out and added the additional qualifier for the newer version.
