The beauty of SMP resides in a symbiosis of design, efficiency and management: it is power of modded minecraft - to show how technological design decisions affect visual style of buildings/installations along with environment nearby. I am player dedicated to a 'functional' part of design and presenting this "developments story in a RPG manner".
Those screenshots are taken from different periods of time on a local server. They are not in order of time.
Part 1: Legacy
Spawnpoint was not a good habitable place. It is situated in a center of a Jungle filled with spiders, quicksand and poisonous ivy. There was a harsh time: scarce resources, limited access to food sources, but the place started to take its form of a local industrial city(Thanks to fish trading agreement with nearby village). Unfortunately, archaeologists are unable to find the photos of early history of this place.
The legacy remains up to this date: local manually-serviced farms in the center of settlement along with wandering ocelots are a tribute to past times of powerful nature.
Part 2: Sustainability
The major part of settlement evolution is based on a biofuels and charcoal. This was a strategical choice to provide a way to deploy railroad network asap, because of creosote surplus and biofuels portability. This plan was completed in numerous stages, but there were occasional changes, small failures and big explosive success stories.
Currently you can see abandoned at this moment first version of ethanol factory situated in Srezinka's house basement. Officials are currently in doubt what they should do with it: dismantle it or save it as a historical artifact.
"The Creosote Delirium" - it is not an illness, but a huge part of a town's history. The name of event originates from a scientific symposium which local engineers and scientists were skeptical about Coke Oven facility project:
This facility also incorporates its own exchange port, which was build to deliver resources to it and to distribute power in a form of biofuel to distant treefarms, but biofuel exchange is going away thanks to recent inclusion of centralized power grid. This improvement made trains shorter and faster leading to a lower coal consumption.

. Regardless this undesirable decision me decided to perform this project using my personal resources. Now you can see this facility in its glory to this moment. It is even growing now.We should take care about the resources we have. This project is a total waste of them for a strange outcome. I can see no purpose in this Creosote Delirium. We MUST use Steam Ovens instead of Coke Ovens!
