Details of the issue Prior to this crash my game had previously stopped responding but did not fully crash, I had to restart it and try again and then this occured. I tried to create a new world, and for a few minutes the screen only had the dirt background, then the "loading world" text appeared, before returning to the main menu screen and crashing.

My system specs are:
Processor
Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4005U CPU @ 1.70GHz

Video Card
Intel(R) HD Graphics Family

RAM
4.0 GB

Operating System
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (build 9600), 64-bit
