Just wondering if theirs any possible way to create a contraption that can farm these? I noticed shearing leaves still gave me saplings, and I remember this small contraption Azanor built using a leaf, a deployer and breaker. However I haven't seen anyone mention/ question/ attempt creating this contraption. So I'd figure I should bite the bullet and see if anyone's tried this.

Since I don't wanna make a whole new thread, I'll just ask this here.

Is it normal to get about 1 sapling per 10 trees? I was testing this with the sickle to see if they could even get saplings, and they can, but after testing on a massive amount of trees I've planted I only managed to get around 7-8 saplings. Is it possible that the sickle lowers that chance of getting saplings, or is my luck just horrendous?

1 in 10 sounds pretty unlucky, I think the longest I've gone was about 3 silverwood trees.

I tend to get 1 every other silverwood, and get plenty from greatwood saps, but only once got the greatwood to actually grow, and never figured out how that happened.

I haven't got any sapling from greatwood but I get 2/3 from silverwood using sickle and 1/4 without.

So basically, my luck is piss poor. Kinda like my luck with the world I started in. It seemed nice - started near a village, my nether portal lead to a massive amount of soulsand with no enemies in sight, had about 10 diamonds that I had already found...not a single cactus or cow within a 1km radius of my spawn -_- That's something I've noticed, there's like 10 billion sheep, but cows are few and far between for some reason.

Also, god dangit, just started another map and then wisps started spawning. Recreated it and cheated in some goggles and there's a 1300 pure node at dangerous levels near a dark node ><

greatood and silverwood trees need aura to be able to grow. if you plant the sapplings in a low aura area they take a long time to grow, maybe even never.
though I did notice that even if it's a high level aura, it doesn't mean they grow very fast, it's pretty random

Interestingly enough, with the test that I did for the sickle about 20 of the saplings grew within the first 2 minutes ><

Now if only I could get that many legit. Also, been having some trouble with aura nodes in this pretty darn good seed I recently got. Has a village, several ground level lava pools, several greatwood and silverwood trees around the village, and in this version of it one of the greatwood trees (there's about 7-8 of em) has the spider spawners under it. There's also something like 10 farms and it's next to a redwood tree forest temperate rain forest with tons of cattle.

The only problem is there's the infinite marsh on that map's x=0 coordinates. If there's water, it's covered in marsh, but it doesn't affect other biomes by replacing them with marsh.

From my experience it seems that I get a lot more saplings by using a sickle on a "live" silverwood tree with the trunk still intact than from a decaying tree. Has anybody else in this thread that I'm necroing noticed this?

Simply said, that is not how minecraft works.

I almost always start at the top, sickle off the leaves, then cut down the wood - so far my average sapling drop rate hovers around .9 per tree after quite a few dozen trees, the same as when I used to stand around like a mook waiting on it to decay without my help. Just as anecdotally worthless as some else's claim of 1 in 10, but there you go. I seriously doubt the method of breaking the leaves has anything at all to do with anything, so I'll agree with the 'Count.

Vanilla trees are the same, letting them decay or punching them gives same ammount of saplings and apples.
