I believe Saice mentioned in one of his videos that that was changed and villagers actually acknowledge carpenter doors now...

Nope. It's hardcoded into vanilly Minecraft (people need to stop doing that) that villagers can only mess with iron doors.

This was told to me by Dave. I have since learned that yes they are not valid for villagers and have swapped them out for vanilla doors.
