Hello,

some friends and I are playing Techworld 2 on a Server.
We are just about to build a nuclear reactor. But we asked the question: Why?

What should we do with all the energy comming out of it?
So it would be very nice if some of you can give us some inspiration what to do next in our World.

Thx

The nuclear reactor from which mod?

Big Reactors: build turbines and use mining lasers with a completely automated, max speed ore-processing setup(extra points for fortuning applicable ores), put the extra into a draconic energy sphere, try to fill it.
IC2: go the uu-matter route to get iridium for gravity suits and/or Ultimate Hybrid Solar auto-production(PS: one reactor will barely get you started)
Reactorcraft: build a closed loop, stable system between reactor and turbine(this'll take you a week or so), use the turbine to power a dynamo and use the RF for forcefields to protect you base, backup and get ur mates to try break in

Other use for power: RF tools worlds take 1000's of RF/t to keep running

Thanks for your hints and inspirations.
Unfortunately Draconic Evolution is for Minecraft 1.7.2 and we are playing at 1.6.4 but thx anyway.

For the sake of it. If you build one you neednt worry about power again.
Then just build something neat. This game doesn't last long if you don't build things, even with mods you run out of relevant content.

Yeah I stopped "needing" things in my current world just a few days after playing. Its really hard to define what is needful in minecraft unless the person playing it comes up with their own goals.

After about 2 or 3 years of having awesome fun at modded minecraft... all I do is ask myself "why?"... why don't I have as much fun at this game anymore? why isn't is exciting anymore?

I think when you start asking yourself these questions... "why?"... it isn't long before you're really losing interest in playing. This was one of my favorite games, ever, and it really is sad to feel more bored than anything else while I play.

Edit: Gregorious T could solve this dilemma for me very quickly... but Greg is a very slow modpack designer and I think it might be years, not months, before he re-kindles my interest.

You should embrace the sandbox nature of the game and stop playing by some mad mod developers rules. I dont think I will ever tire of modded minecraft. Theres nothing else even remotely like it. Sure, I have to take a break now and then to recharge my creativity but its an not just a game, its a hobby and an obsession.

I'm sure you know already, but BloodAsp was given permission to do GT5 unofficial and the Infitech2 pack is based on it. If you haven't already looked/played it of course.

I wouldnt mind trying out a gregtech-balanced pack but the problem is all the worldgen fluff (BoP specifically) that comes with it, lagging the hell out of my computer and I am afraid to disable anything in packs with tweaked recipes.

It's absolutely worth a try. I found it pretty hard going and didn't get as far along the tech tree as I'd have liked, but the sheer amount of content is unbelievable.

BTW BoP isn't in it as far as I'm aware although ExtraBiomesXL is - maybe that's also laggy, not sure.

I find EBXL more friendly in terms of lag. Main issue with these biome mods are tree canopies and sizes. I usually disable large tree generation because of this, though FastCraft seems to have a positive impact.

I have to admit, its hard to find a good place to build with mostly vanilla biomes. I always end up on the border of an extreme hills and a Magical forest because theres nothing better. Eventually though, it stops mattering what the landscape looks like when it gets mostly obscured by buildings.

Off-topic a bit, but its also worth mentioning that its also on github for peeps who want to submit pull requests.

For instance, I reworked the large steam/gas/plasma turbines and the large heat exchanger myself.

Development goes much more quickly when others can contribute and collaborate :)

I swear I'm the only person who spawns into the world and just starts building wherever, unless its a really shitty spawn (like, underwater)

I try to do that, but most of the time I wind up in the ocean. Or the jungle - I don't like the lag it sometimes has.
