Hello all,

I'm having a bit of a problem. Me and a couple of friends want to play feed the beast on a server together but the problem is we can't get it to work decentle, nobody from us can host decently, we always have some kind of problem.

So we decided get a server hosted by a professional company, wich i don't know yet but i'll find a good one.

Now my question to you is, how many MB of dedicated ram should i take for 1-10 people since that seem the prices go per mb or ram and stuff, i did a bit of a lookup, and all hosts say different stuff.

Also any good recommendations for a host are welcome. We don't need free ts/ventrilo and stuff included, all we need is a mc server to run either unhinged or unleashed on for 1-10 players, maybe later we can expand it.

Greetings heartcore

I use to run a server hosted by fragnet.net they are a very good host. For Ram I would say start with 2-3 GB if you need to you can always get more the most important thing however is processor speed. Putting MCPC+ as the servers backbone is also recommended as it allows for FTB and plugins like bukkit would use as well as better Ram management. Hope this helps you.

so 2gig should be enough for a server with ftb to run on? for about 10 people, maybe more will come in the future, now it is actually only playing with friends and stuff, but we are part of a multigaming clan and some people are looking for new games and stuff so there might be a new section on it's way.

Playstyle and specific mods matter a little too: Aim high if people will be spread far apart and exploring a lot, aim even higher if Mystcraft is enabled.

hmm, i think it will be ran on unleashed, maybe unhinged i don't think mystcraft will be enabled, or have to get it in a way to create a mining world and stuff like that, but i don't know how to do that yet, but i'm sure i can figure out all off that.

My home server has 8GB ram, which is total overkill it only really accesses about 3GB at most with 3 people on, the CPU is also fairly important my server is running an E4500 which isn't really enough when a lot is going on it frequently spikes up to 100% usage and then we have block lag and a few other nasties when people are exploring. I have had client disconnects (the other 2 people on the server got disconnected) from accessing the Twilight Forest, only on the initial load after the portal was made once the dimension was built it hasn't been an issue.

allright, well i tried hosting myself, but i have an amd phenom2 x6 1055t wich couldn't keep up, my friend has a better pc with a 4.8 gz cpu , but the server kept melting his cpu. So that is why i'm thinking of getting a server from a professional hosting company

If your friend is crashing, you could try posting crashlogs in the support section; folks there would be happy to diagnose the crash.

I highly recommend a hosting company. There are many out there. I'm using NFOServers, and they're OK, but I'm thinking of switching. Fragnet is good and I think we'll be switching to them.

3GB should be more than good enough to start with. Any decent hosting company will allow you to change your service on the fly. So, if 3GB is not enough, you can easily add more through their web interface.

yeah but the damn problem is, all hosting companies i have searched require paypal, i tried to link my credit card to paypal wich failed, and all that crap wich resulted in to me losing money so i need a host that doesn't work with paypal but accepts credit cards.

You want tone company to use paypal, one of the best things in case of fraud. There are fake hosting company's. With paypal you can chargeback and win 99% of the time so paypal hosts are more reliable.

if you are looking for dedicated servers, ovh.com and Online.net are probably the best.
