I just wanted to find out if playing on a server is less of a performance impact on my computer?? I am going to buy a server and wanted to know would there be less of an impact on the client side of things, like what exactly is computed server side etc.

Don't mean to be rude but only answer if you know for sure. Too many people say "i think so" and
that's not really what I am looking for....

Looking forward to hearing from you guys...

The impact will be identical. The client does the majority of the work, the server then verifies the information the client sends it and makes sure its acceptable. The client simulates the world the same in both sp and mp, just in mp it sends various info to the server for its simulation (block placing/breaking, attacking, etc.), the server also sends information back to the client occasionally to say previous actions were accepted (or where blocks have spawned, mobs current locations etc.).

Running a server will not improve client side performance to put it bluntly. One point to make: if you run LAN from your pc, a server would improve your clients performance, as you are using some of your computers resources to "check-up" on connected members.
