I spent a while this afternoon setting up an ftb server, mostly by youtube tutorials. I've got to a point where I can join the server, but I do not know how my friends can. I join by connecting to my ip adress with a :25565, but this does not work for my friends. What should I do to let them join?

I'm not very good with servers, but one easy mistake to make is using the wrong type of IP. Make sure that the IP you are giving them does not start with 192.168.x.x The 192.168.x.x are internal IPs. To get the external IP go to google and type IP into the search bar and press enter. At the top of the results you should see 'Your public IP address is' That is the one you want to give to your friends.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the external IP may change after some time has passed. Make sure that you check the external IP now and then to see how long it is until it changes. It also should change each time you disconnect and reconnect to your ISP, unless you have a static IP which an ISP would probably charge extra for.

It turns out it was because of my port forwarding setup. My brother fixed it for me. Thanks for your help.
