I've got my direwolf20 server set up and I'm only playing with another friend on there. We are playing on the same internet connection which is high speed. I'm not having any lag issues but he can't access any of my machines (IC2, forestry, thermal expansion ect...) and he can't even get into my house. I don't have any plugins installed and I've given him moderator access. Also he can't use any commands like switching to creative whilst I can. Any ideas on how to fix this?

What are you using to start up the server? McMyAdmin? bat file?
How are you giving him moderator access? as in what command are you using?

I'm using a dedicated server with cubedhost so whatever command they use to start the server. I just click on start. I'm giving him moderator permission using that as well. I think it could be something to do with the fact that the server never seems to be properly running. On the control interface it says offline but reading the console log everything has started up correctly. Obviously we can connect to the server and play. I think it could be that because the server thinks it's off that it doesn't implement the player settings. Still though my friend shouldn't have to be a mod to access my house, it seems strange to me.

um... yeah. I'm not familiar with that hosting software.

But I can tell you that your host is not up-to-date with forge's code. McMyAdmin had the same issues that you are describing. The console says its started, but the site is not updating.

Contact your host provider and have them talk to the Forge development team to sort that out.

The Best/quickest way to contact them, is by going onto IRC #Minecraftforge channel on EsperNet server. http://en.irc2go.com/webchat/?net=EsperNet&room=Minecraftforge

In the meantime. you have to control your server without your host. Doing /help in chat will show you all the commands you need to control your server. the one you want is "/op <name>". Other then that Its in the host's hands.

Could it be that you are an op and building within the protected spawn radius? Check your server.properties and see if you have the following line:
Code:
spawn-protection=16
Hope this helps.
