Hi,
I am running a stock FTB Monster 1.1.1 server for a bunch of friends (5-7 active at the same time) and we recently got a bunch of new players to joins us (to about 20 active)
As our number grow, the server seem to have some problem handling our needs (lag mainly) and I'm trying to find the source of it. We got a RAM problem too.
Server stat: (dedicated server)
Core™ i5-3570S 3.1 GHz+
16 Gb RAM
1 Tb 7200/rpm HDD
100 Mbps
Xms = 2048 - Xmx = 12248
We are running MineOs distrib (2e628a4) on Linux Ubuntu.
The main problem: is that we are experiencing some timed lag from time to time and I'm pretty sure that it comes from chunk loading and my server log is saturated with: "Can't keep up! did... of is the server overloaded?".
What Ive done: - I already reduced the max chunk vision to 8 but we still seem to get lag.
- I pinged my server while we were lagging and we always get a stable 16-17ms
Second problem: I'm loosing RAM memory somewhere. I understand that many active mods (mostly in Monster) are memory consuming but I see servers with 16-32gb of ram hosting way more peoples than me.
What Ive done: - Until recently, the server was restarting every 24h to flush and renew memory. As we are growing, the memory seemed to go faster so I tried the reset to 12hrs and 6hrs but the memory still seem to get lost somewhere (Server using normal amount but Linux telling me that a way higher amount is used)
I then have to do a physical reboot of the server to regain access to the memory.
Answer? : We are currently looking if a server upgrade is the answer to our problems or is it just throwing money away.
Thanks for all your answers guys!
