I made a custom modpack and its been working fine, set up a local server on my computer and host myself and 3 friends. My computer has 32g of ram so It has always handled hosting and playing fine. With my most recent pack, I have an issue I can't Pinpoint. Ive almost always had the error "Can't Keep Up! did the server change time? running xxx behind skipping xxx ticks" but now I only get it if I leave the server running while noone is logged in and it skips upwards of 10000 ticks. Restart the server and everything seems fine again

Now, after a while some of the players (including myself) will start experiencing issues opening chests, or doors etc. but it fixes itself before long. Day by day these issues get worse and worse until one day, you log on and you can't move or open your inventory due to the sheer amount of frame-rate lag.

I have set up an identical server and let it run with absolutely noone getting on and no items like buildcraft quarries running, or big fancy structures, or even anyone to explore chunks but over time, the server still begins to skip more and more ticks for seemingly no reason at all. I'm tired of having to delete worlds and start over because of this and want to know whats causing this degradation of my worlds. any information would be helpful. A list of mods is available if it would help.

PS: wasnt sure if this was the right place to post this but I didnt know where else it might go.

yeah you might want to make an auto restart script. this is most likely due to hitting the memory cap. thats why some server restarts daily while some some restarts weekly.

As someone who is still in the baby stages of learning scripting/code etc. how would I go about this? is it something I add to the server start application?

you probably get something like a minecraft server manager. check minecragt gamepedia for some managers.
