Details of the issue Server crashes on startup or as players join, we are not sure which.

Does this also happen if you run the provided server launcher instead of sponge?
 
Yes. The same crash happens with or without plugins or Sponge
 
We rolled back to 1.4.0 in the mean time, since our members were getting restless haha
