SO I currently have a Monster server running on a Phenom 1055T Processor with 12GB of ram. I have a new SSD drive coming in for it this week and will be doing a new install. I also have a spare AMD FX-4130 CPU with Motherboard here and am wondering which CPU would better for the server. Its a dedicated box running MineOS.

CPU comparison

The Phenom outperforms the FX when using all cores even though its 2 years older. But the FX scores a little higher on Single core performance. The FX has a few key features over the Phenom.

Much higher turbo clock speed - 4.4 GHzvs3.3 GHz- Around 35% higher turbo clock speed
Significantly higher clock speed - 3.8 GHzvs2.8 GHz- More than 35% higher clock speed
Is unlocked - YesvsNo - Somewhat common; An unlocked multiplier allows for easier overclocking
Newer manufacturing process - 32 nmsvs45 nms - A newer manufacturing process allows for a more powerful, yet cooler running processor
More l3 cache - 8 MBvs6 MB - Around 35% more l3 cache; more data can be stored in the l3 cache for quick access later
More l2 cache - 4 MBvs3 MB - Around 35% more l2 cache; more data can be stored in the l2 cache for quick access later
Much more l3 cache per core - 2 MB/corevs1 MB/core - 2x more l3 cache per core
Significantly more l2 cache per core - 1 MB/corevs0.5 MB/core - 2x more l2 cache per core
Better PassMark (Single core) score - 1,399vs1,108 - More than 25% better PassMark (Single core) score
Better overclocked clock speed (Air) - 4.66 GHzvs3.97 GHz - Around 20% better overclocked clock speed (Air)

I'm leaning towards the FX and overclocking it to about 4.2GHz.

Thoughts? Recommendations?

Thanks

The vast majority of us are only familiar with intel xeon, i5 or i7 series, and ADM opterons. I myself would trust the benchmarks provided by CPUboss in this case.

I have a intel i7 3930k OC @ 4.32 GHZ for all 12 logical cores :)

Used to use a E5 1620 and the 3930k OC just dominates the E5 1620 in every way.
