I'm using Mystcraft books to create a distributed base. Each room is in a different place, accessible from a linking book in a hub room. I'm trying to give each room a completely different design aesthetic, but I'm running out of ideas. My current rooms:
Hub: very boring, plain stone bricks. Will at some point be replaced by a Stargate room in a hollow asteroid in the End. Lit by White redstone lamps.
Old crafting/storage room: cherry wood plank flooring, cherry wood log walls, brown wool ceiling. Gold cover strip accent around the walls. Looks kinda old-style nautical. I'll probably repurpose this into a new Thaumcraft room at some point - currently it's doing nothing. Lit by nitor.
Thaumcraft lab: entirely made of glass, submerged in a lava lake in the Nether. A fun challenge to build, but it's too small, so I need to move my lab. Lit by the lava outside.
Underground farming complex: grass floors, mossy stone brick walls and ceiling. Looks like an old overgrown temple or something - it's pretty awesome. Vines everywhere. Lit by nitor.
New machine/storage room: entirely made of iron blocks. Boy was that expensive! I estimate there's almost 20000 iron bars making that room, and that's not including the time I managed to set fire to it with a wrath igniter and had to replace all the iron! Lit by wrathlamps because it's too big for anything else.
Fusion reactor chamber (under construction, on hiatus): dark xychorium bricks, lit by wrathlamp.
Genetics room: currently iron blocks. Next project is to redesign and expand this, at which point the walls will become xycraft tanks full of liquid DNA. Not sure what to do about floor, ceiling, and lighting. Needs to be something other than iron blocks because that's taken now.
Trouble is, I don't have any more ideas for any more rooms I decide I need. Any time I decide I need a new room, I dithering for ages trying to decode what to make it look like. I'm not particularly happy with the fusion reactor room, for example. I'm planning a mob grinder in an eternal storm Mystcraft end world, with the control room probably made out of basalt brick, but again that's a "can't think of anything better" decision. So any and all ideas for aesthetics would be welcome!
I'd quite like to use sandstone for something at some point, but I'm not sure what to make with it. It has a very Egyptian deserty sort of vibe, and I'm not sure what that would be appropriate for.
