I'm trying ATM to get rotarycraft ore processsing up for some of my more used and basic ores on my Monster server ATM, and of course the first step in that process is to get lubricant set up and ready to go. The issue I'm running into is that MFR doesn't seem to want to plant/harvest canola seeds... So is there any expedient way to automate canola? Or Am I doomed in terms of easily accessible tech before I start?

As stated by ewsmith, RoC fans are excellent for this. You'll want to do one fan per row (a fan can harvest adjacent rows but doesn't blow the seeds forward reliably)

You can catch the harvested seeds via a hopper arrangement or any vacuuming block.

Item vacuum with a steam engine. Best item sucker ever.

There's one in Horizons I believe which sucks items via teleporation, so in a way that could be considered "better". But yeah, the item vacuum is amazing. Particularly for distance. Item vacuum plus bedrock axe in a dense forest is hilarious.

I use mfr in my canola farm anyway! MHUAHAHAHA- *ahem* I just use conveyor belts to pickup and transport the seeds to a central vacuum hopper.

Edit: Though I do wish we could have MFR farm canola. Mostly 'cause it's quiet and compact. But that's all on MFR's side.

Alas, I think Skyboy has stated that he won't support RotaryCraft because he's got a beef with Reika or something.

If you've got a stable, fast (and mayhaps large) supply of bonemeal, you could use 3 autonomous activators, a single plot of land, and an item vacuum with a little power going into it to make an ultra-fast canola farm. The only hard part would be controlling the timing, but I'd think you'd be able to do that with a vanilla clock and a couple repeaters. First, activator one plants the seeds, then activator two hits it with bonemeal (which, unless that's changed in 1.7.10, instantly grows it to full maturity), then activator two whacks it a left-click. Seeds get sucked up by the item vacuum, and are either sent to the planter for replanting, or into storage. Simple, fast, and compact.

That, is a very interesting setup for a compact production line. Please pardon me while I run away with this idea.

Somebody could write a mod to patch RoC compatibility with MFR, like what was done with Dartpatch.

Simple canola farm.

Place a redstone block in the ground, and a DC motor on top. Feed the DC motor into an industrial coil. Connect to a fan. Set the coil to 1024 R, 128 Nm.

Place a computercraft computer under the coil. Make a quick program to turn the top redstone signal ON once every thirty minutes for sixty seconds.

Plant 128 canola in front of the fan. Place a vacuum hopper at the end.

Voila, more canola than you can grind w/o nuclear power.

I like your idea better than my own, which did the same thing but with an annoying assortment of circuits (latches and timers). Ugh.
