I really love my IC2 Miner. I think the process has a really well balanced cost v benefit, and it doesn't create ginormous holes in the landscape. But ... I'm removing IC2 from my modpack.

Does anyone know of a mod that has an item with a similar profile to the IC2 Miner? Doesn't make too much of a mess, minimizes waste output, has a reasonable cost to fabricate/maintain.

Thanks!

I assume by ginormous holes you are referring to the quarry?

To my knowledge there isn't one. I suppose you can either use CC Turtles and have them replace what they dig with cobble, but that would require at least some knowledge of Lua Programming. Your only other choices are setup a dedicated mystcraft age to quarry, or running quarries below the surface, so they can't be seen.

Or RP2 frame quarries, running sideways under the ground. One at 45, one at 30, and one at 12. (with xycraft water blocks to solidify lava as you pass through it)

May I suggest not removing IC2? Yes, it's dated. But it still has that old industrial feel to it, you might find it quite useful for something someday, and it's the mod with the Miner, which is hard to replace.

One of the purposes of this modpack is to explore what would be missed if IC2 were to disappear. So far the list is very short indeed.

Complex Machines has a UE-compatible "extractor" that I'm going to test. I'm guessing that it isn't quite matured yet and/or imbalanced. But I'll give it a try. Frames are an option. Of course there'd need to be a 1.5.x version of redpower for that to happen. :)

Turtles strip mining/tunnel boreing/mining every other layer in a quarry like fashion.

I never used it, but there is this steves carts miner. and it can be equipped with a chunkloader module and so. the disadvantage is: after some distance, it runs out of rails. so, if you need your iron for something else, you can set up a wooden rail factory, which consumes less iron. but still, it's not really convenient to see that machine coming back (and not mining during that time), delivering the ores and obviously all the cobblestone, and grabbing new rails.
