I know that the Buildcraft builder was disabled because it could corrupt chunks, etc. And for whatever reason, it isn't being added back to Buildcraft. My question...

(Is anyone else aggravated by the fact that the name "Buildcraft" is no longer an accurate descriptor for this mod, since the builder doesn't work? Apart from the builder, what does Buildcraft actually do nowadays that can't be done by other mods?)

Ahem. Sorry about that.

My question: Are there any mods that duplicate the functionality of the builder (i.e. mods that provide a facility that uses power to place blocks down in the world according to some sort of template)?

Thanks for the tips. Regarding ComputerCraft, it would be more or less like writing a mod to do a same thing given that you'd have to write the algorithm to scan, store, retrieve, and produce a copy of an original structure.Regardless, maybe someone has already written scripts to do just that.

MFFS 3 (Calclavia's version) can do something like it. Check out Direwolf20's mod spotlight of it, he covers what you need to do.

Just watched the tutorial. Quite intriguing. I'm happy that it eats resources.

Right. But not in the 1.5.2 modpacks. =)
It has a quarry, which is the most simple way of mass mining.
Not the fastest or the one that fits most play styles.. but the simplest, which is something

Just my own opinion, BuildCraft is a GREAT mod. I like the pipes, they are simple and yet effective enough. The gates, there are a lot of nifty stuffs you can do with those. I tend to use structure pipes, pipe wires and gates to make some nifty contraptions and with facades you can make it look pretty as well. The machines are effective and great too.

Even though I've done away with BC for my own use, I will still recommend it to most users. Great fun to be had.

If you have a schematic file (i.e. from MCEdit) this is just the thing. If all you want are regular shapes (cylinders, hexagons, etc) this program can work wonders.

Just for record, I'm using my own selection of mods right now and not FTB packs.

Ender IO at the moment for power, fluid as well as redstone signals. It also has a dimensional transceiver for long distance power transferring like TE's Energy Tesseracts. (Using 1.6.4 so no TE for the time being) It also has it's own facade for it's conduits so your base can be wired compactly and still look neat and tidy.

Tubes! mod for item transportation but it is only one of many.

Applied Energistics for mid to high tier items and storage management. I have Extra Cells too to include liquid handling using AppEng too.

ExtraUtilities, more options for items, power and fluid transportation. It does have more stuffs in it.

To replace the quarry, I have Engineer's Toolbox's Husher and RotaryCraft's Boring machine as well as it's Piledriver. Not as elegant but pretty fun to watch. :)

But I still do miss BC's gates, they do give me a lot of controls over stuffs. As well as facades being able to cover them up.

I've been using the Boring Machine from RotaryCraft at the moment and have not delve into the Husher yet. Too many options, too little time!

Oh I'd love to, but I'd want to find a modpack that was (more or less) compatible with FTB's ID allocations. I know we're not going to have to worry about that forever, but still, my friends and I have built some stuff in FTB that we'd prefer not to lose.
