I noticed in my world directory I have about 6 ages created, none of them are being used, but some of them had extensive quarries or exploration. Two of them are over 2GB in size. After about 3 months, my server now seems to really be lagging and I am getting a LOT of repeated "[WARNING] Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded?".

I truly don't know if its the ages or if its just too much junk being loaded in the overworld, but I was wondering if there is a way to permanently delete an age out of a world save without causing any issues? Is it just deleting the mystcraft book and also deleting the DIM_MYST# folders?

Any other thoughts?

System spec:
Server and client running on same system
Older cpu, i7 920 2.67GHz ( I realize that minecraft uses only one core, so this is probably a big issue)
12GB mem
64bit windows 7

Delete the DIM_MYST folder and you're good. If somebody hides a book from you while you're rounding them all up and then uses it then nothing bad happens, the world just gets generated again.

Mystcraft can indeed cause huge memory leaks.

Oh, and just an update. I removed all mystcraft ages and it didn't help with the server burden. Ahh well.

Sarcel, you also need to delete the world file for the ages. find them under the data folder. they will be named something like "agedata_3.dat"
hope it helps. i had the issue as well..some 26 ages that kept regenerating...
