Minefactory Reloaded has removed the cocoa beans support from the harvester, and moved it to a new machine called a fruit picker, which can harvest fully grown fruits. but I'm getting a problem with them and I don't know if I'm missing something... when the fruit picker harvests the fruit, for this example cocoa beans, it completely harvests it and leaves nothing behind. so after some time, when all the cocoa is harvested, there's no other cocoa beans that were replanted... I tried using the planter, but the planter doesn't seem to replant fruits... so the only way to keep the fruit picker going is to either manually replant the cocoa, or use a bunch of activators... is there a way to have minefactory reloaded replant the cocoa, or is really the only way to do it manually or with activators?

I've not used the latest version yet but iirc the planters will plant those only on jungle wood and only one layer?
Or does it not even plant them at all now?

i didn't test the alternatives, but in my farm i have a corner with jungle logs outside the harvesters range, an the cocoa beans inside, so the harvester can grab them. the planter works like before. When it broke at the last update i did not think of the fruit picker, so i came up with that solution

*puts on derp face of shame* yea... I found the problem... the logs need to be 1 layer higher then the planter for it to work, that's what I've been doing wrong... oohwell, atleast now I have it working, and even working with mana beans ;)

Hm. Mana Bean farming just got a lot easier...

The fruit picker isn't really that new, and in fact it can even work with Forestry's or BoP's fruits.

Wait, a way to farm mana beans that gets around terrible Golem-pathing issues? Woohoo!

So from what I'm reading Yushunoha, float the wood blocks 1 above the Picker, with the beans on those blocks. Correct? How high does it go up?
Seems like that could create a more compact bean farm then golems allowed (as you don't need to leave room for the buggers to move around when using the Picker).

You can just do the usual planter setup, with some dirt or whatever above it. Then, place a log(s) on that dirt or whatever, and the planter will plant stuff on it (them). The picker goes where the harvester would be.
So in the end, nothing really changes, the only difference is that you need to place a few logs.
As for the vertical range of fruit pickers, I have no idea, because for whatever reason I've never tested that. I'm going to assume that they work in a similar way to the harvester: by checking whether there's a tree in front of them, then looking for fruits on its leaves or cocoa/mana beans on the trunk (however tall it may be). Still, I doubt the planter would be able to plant beans anywhere other than on the bottom log.

The question now with the mana beans is whether you get various types or just one. I watched a a vid the other day and their nonMFR farm was derping and yielding only Terrace beans.

Minefactory Reloaded add's a hammer tool, when you have that tool equipped you can see the range of some of the machines, even some of them with upgrades...

I think I got all the different kinds of beans, but I'll have to really test that to be sure
EDIT: checked and I'm indeed getting all the different kinds of beans

@RedBoss
I encountered the same bug/derp/feature with the Advanced Item Collector from Random Things when I first set up my magic beans farm.
Golems were breaking and the item collector transformed the collected beans into the first type that entered the chest. This is in Monster 1.1.0.
It DOES make it possible to target the essentia types though... o_< ^_^

were you able to find a solution to the problem? I had a passive mana bean farm coming from the Pechs that spawned in my cursed earth farm, which was in a magical forest biome. I had no issues because I routed all the mana beans into a filing cabinet. I only know of the single essentia problem from others so I don't know what causes it or a solution for my future builds if I run into it.

For what it's worth and since we're already using MFR, I just use an Auto-Spawner with a Pech in a Safari Net to get around farming mana beans without golems. Though now I have a feeling that I'm on an old version and it either is gonna be stopped or has already been stopped.

Only adding a gathering golem instead of using the Advanced Item Collector, now I'm getting randomized types of mana beans but I've yet to automate the replanting.
