I don't know if this problem is related to buildcraft 3 or the ftb laucher but here it is anyway: redstone engines just don't work no matter where or how i place them, no matter if they are connected through pipes or directly to the machine, they won't start... :(
For those of you who are wondering: yes they are receiving redstone power, yes i use wooden conductive pipes to take the power out. The thing is that stirling engines work (if they are directly connected to the machine) forestry engines work and apparently they only work if i am using them to take items out of a chest... Is that a new "feature"?

Redstone engines can't power wooden conductive pipes anymore, it's now only able to power a few things like pumps and normal wooden pipes.

By steam engine do you mean the engine actualy called steam engine or the stirling engine?
If you'r using the actual steam engine then you need to constantly supply it with water.
If you'r using the sterling engine then it should work. Are you connecting the engine directly to the quarry or with a wooden pipe + a conductive pipe?

As Meldiron mentioned, this is a recent (past month) change in Buildcraft behavior and is working as intended. Feature, not bug.

For a compilation of this and other Buildcraft changes, I've started a little thread here to tide folks over until the official Buildcraft 3.2.0 release and release notes. =)

Thanks a lot guys! That was really helpful! Too bad that it's new feature... I suppose they made it to nerf redstone engines but i'll get used to it :)
