in the current "Recommended" version, there are 4 mods that are outdated. As well, every time you try to find the recipe of an item [or press U to find the uses of the item] the game closes without a crash log, meaning something is wrong with that modification too.

there are probably a lot more then 4 mod out of date, but with how many crashes i am seeing over on the feedthebeast crash sub reddit i don't quite think 1.4.1 is ready to be recommended, though if you want to manually update those mods go for it 
Why does it matter the mods are out of date? In date =/= playing nice with the pack.
that's not the issue, though I felt like mentionning it since the previous recommended versions were perfectly up-to-date.
Though the main issue is that there is a malfunctioning mod [the mod that shows Recipes], it crashes your game when you try to find a recipe.

If there's a bug (particularly a game-ending one), then that needs to be reported, and there are places to do that to ensure that it gets the attention it requires.
The key point here is that the modpacks are not really supposed to be all constantly up to date. The mods and mod versions are selected to current-ness, stability and testing done. Each pack goes through beta stages to ensure that there are no game-ending, or world-killing bugs before proper release.
