I'm working on a mod, and need to make a custom book for the 'n00b guide'/initial research setup, in a similar vein to the "Materials and You" book you spawn with in TiCon. I'm discovering that there doesn't seem to be a set object type or standard way of building a book. Every tool like I've looked at on Git appeared to have been coded from scratch, and none really seemed to have much in common.

Now, I could work out a way to do it from the ground up in my own original code, but frankly I'd rather not reinvent the wheel. Is there a mod/library/something that you guys could recommend for a job like this? One with documentation would be nice, but I'll take what I can get.

TL;DR: How I mine for fish make Steve a manual?

have you looked at Enchiridion? it still requires some coding though

I was under the impression Enchiridion just added the book consolidator, didn't realize it had more in it. I hadn't yet, but I'll check it out.

I don't mind doing some coding, I just didn't want to do it totally from scratch if I didn't have to.

If there's a mod guide book I'd look to for inspiration out of all I've played and seen, it'd be Botania's. Sucker's a work of art, functional, humorous, and effective at teaching you what you need to know.

Yeah, she did an excellent job on it. It's also put together in a way that I'm not sure I could emulate without just straight up ripping off her code, which I'm not willing to do.

Which no one should do, really. But it might be worth running a few questions by her to see if she'd be willing to offer pointers, code chunks, or whatever. Never know! :3

Personally, I am of the mind that she could seriously release the code to that book as a modding API or something and it'd do perfectly well out there in the wild, but that's just me.
