Perhaps a device that repairs metal tools and armor? I know that's kind of a niche use, and there already is that grind stone block (which I can't remember the name of right now, it's been a while since I've used it) but it still might be a good use. Also, gas cutting was mentioned, and that may be something that could be integrated into manufacturing somehow (maybe a more steel-efficient way of making base panels from HSLA steel blocks, for example).
Look at IC2's rolling machine. How many people actually enjoy such mechanics?

*raises hand* And the one from Railcraft.

Seriously though, how many people spent their entire time in the Ultimate Modpack, playing with RedPower2, and never realizing the Greg Tech Wire Machine could do the same recipes and for better efficiency, and instead stuck with a Diamond Drawplate?

Just because people are lazy, doesn't mean you shouldn't include the option for people willing to hunt it down. And besides, a block powered by the Frictional Heater, that uses oxygen to reweld armor together? Yeah, I'd use that over the AA repairer. Just because by the time I get to needing my armor repaired, I'll have a lot of oxygen spare.

Nothing wrong at all with the rolling machine mechanics. They're also less annoying than, say, the RoC blast furnace or the RoC workbench (name?), both of which are fiddly when automating.

You can automate both relatively easily. There's a slot in their UIs that takes crafting patterns. You can only do one pattern per machine and the workbench needs a redstone timer for full automation, but it isn't terribly difficult.

Yeah I think that's probably the fiddly part I was remembering. Its been a while.
