Hi

Firstly, i apologise if i am posting an incorrect question, but do need some help.

I am running my own server for ftb on a dell vostro 1000 laptop with 2 gb ram. For only 4 users max.

I am using a modified batch file which has resolved the laggy issues. The only problem i have now, is that when i am breaking blocks; any material, the blocks reappear for a fraction of a second then go....this is just irritating.

I have updated everything and turned the laptop to performance settings in options.

If i use my other laptop; a dell xps 6 gb ram etc, all works perfectly....so i assume the script batch file is ok....there is obviously a limitation imposed by the vostro 1000...

I am going to try today to connect the vostro with a Cole to the router instead of wireless, this may help.

Dont want to to get rid of the vostro, but not sure if there is anything i can do to overcome the breaking blocks problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Was quite a challenge first setting up the server on my laptop with IP's etc etc.....but managed it.

Thanks in advance

Ps i upgraded from xp to windows 7 ultimate 32 bit, in the hope it would be more efficient, but made no appreciable difference

I am sure, by far, that I'm the least tetchy guy here on the forums. But the description of your problem seems to be your hardware. First, your running windows 7, and an FTB server on the same machine with only 2g RAM. Last I checked, windows doesn't like to share, and 2g doesn't seem like a lot of room. Secondly, I am going out on a limb and say they have different processors, which can have a major impact on the server. But, again, no expert here, but the RAM seems like it would be an issue.

Inquiry; did it run smoother before you updated to win7? XP was a relatively light foot print on your ram leaving more for your server. Just a thought. Good luck.

Hi
I am not playing ftb on the same laptop, the dell vostro only for the server. I had thought that windows 7 would be more efficient, but it made no difference at all. If you think xp would be better, i will revert back. I will try connecting the vostro to the internet wired instead of wireless, as this should help i hope.

Another thought is maybe i could install a linux OS maybe this would be bettter....

I also hoped there would be a setting in the batch file or something else to just address this one issue....ftb fine except for the one problem i mentioned with breaking blocks.

Would installing linux on the vosteo laptop help with having only 2 gb ram ?

Trid windos 7 but same as xp.

Only issue still that breaking blocks momentarily reappear for a split second then go...

Thanks

linux will use less resources then windows so if your just going to be running a server on it then yes. The reason for the "laggy" block breaks is probably a mix of cpu with network latency. I would ping your server from your other other computer and see how long the response time is because blocks reappearing is normally a sign of slow communication between client and server.

lower the better. With it being in house it should be under 5ms. from people outside the higher it is the more noticeable it is. Personal up untill about 300ms ping im good.
