I'll post this, although I'm not sure if I managed to resolve it last night, and it might help development of FTB to be even more amazing.

While playing, I'll get a CTD within 10mins to an hour. At the moment I'm just exploring the natural world, mystcraft ages and twilight forest, not placing any mod blocks. Part of my exploration is sorting out the textures I want to use for my personal setup. My foundation pack is Misa 64x, with T42, NP and Sphax for mods, and making my own textures for those that conflict in styles (such as ores, plants, etc).

I'm also using a custom mod setup, I've disabled some mods, and added some others, for my tastes of gameplay (mod list detailed below). All appear to be working correctly, blocks appear in NEI.

I'm not familiar with the logs/error reports. What files should I be looking at to see what could be causing the problem? I did update my GFX drivers, and that appears to have helped (but at the same time, I did turn of multi-core processing in Optifine - I do have 2 cores - to see if that made any difference). I didn't crash last night after an hours exploration. It might just be my PC, but then I have used that mod pack that shalt not be named, without any major problems (apart from occasional crashes that are quite normal in Minecraft)

A good place to start checking would be minecrafts own error logs. Those are located at \FTBBETAA\minecraft\crash-reports.
ForgeModLoaders crash logs are found in the \FTBBETAA\minecraft folder as "ForgeModLoader-client-X.log", those would probably also be worth a look.

Ok, I only have the one minecraft crash report, from the 13th, and 3 ForgeModLoader logs from yesterday.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46396473/ForgeModLoader-client-2.log
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46396473/ForgeModLoader-client-1.log (the biggest log)
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46396473/ForgeModLoader-client-0.log (after updating drivers, and adjusting optifine chunk loading to default)
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46396473/crash-2012-11-13_20.18.47-server.txt

The first log (client-2) does show out of memory errors at the bottom.

Im not too good at reading crash logs, but to me it seems to simply run out of memory without me beeing able to find any evidence of an error that could cause that.
Sadly it won't be possible to give minecraft any more memory then it's currently getting since you'r running 32bit OS. So i guess we'r left with trying to reduce the memory usage in your minecraft save.
Are you running memory intensetive programs while running minecraft?
Are you using a lot of world anchors or other chunk loading devices (such as quarries)?
Are you using lots of mystcraft ages?

Anyone else know of blocks/things that could eat a lot of memory?

I never run any other programs while playing games. The only taskbar items that are running extra are dropbox and AVG, about 50k each.
I've not built anything yet, just exploring the world in creative mod, so a lot of chunks are being forced to render, but sometimes the crashes can occur when I'm in one area. I had a crash once when I was building a nether portal, to check that the nether ores were working, and I lagged and crashed half way building it.
I have explored many mystcraft ages to test it out, I'm aware that they can cause issues, but I have managed to generate up to 10 ages one after the other without any noticable affects to performance.

I don't know if this is normal behaviour, but chunk loading is about 5x faster if I press escape to call up the menu, compared with the game being active. FPS shoots up, and chunk loading value shoots up. That seems to indicate to me that there is a lot of tick processing going on in the background.

I'd just like to see if there is a difference in logs when you use the other 3 versus when you don't.
Just to rule them out entirely for causing any issues.

OK, what I'll do is copy my mod and config files somewhere, and download the pack again, but I'll have to include optifine for texture pack support.

I'll see how it goes doing what I was doing before, just exploring the generated world.

Sounds like a plan!
I actually do that with every update just so I can back up if something is really broken. Good practice to get into regardless ;)

Just to update, no crashes using vanilla FTB. So I believe that my update to the GFX drivers may have solved it.

I do get some high memory usage. At one point I was stuck between 95% and 99%. Things get laggy then. That was only after flying around the world, forcing lots of chunks to render (stress testing). Everytime memory usage got to 99% there was this brief lag, and then it resumed, before, it would have crashed on me.

Eventually, memory usage dropped back down to around 50%.

What can cause lag are the redwood/tall fir forests added by Extra Biomes. I've had to disable them.

I'll see how things go with my modded pack, if I get any crashes, I'll post the logs straight away.
