Looking for a new host for my multiplayer FTB server, as I sent my current host packing due to crappy policies when mods are involved.

See http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/need-server-expert-cpu-time-usage.40333/ in case you're wondering :p

Anyhow, I'm not gonna ask for hosts, as everyone has his good/bad experiences with pretty much every host that exists.

My questions is, how much RAM should I aim for when looking for hosting?

I'm looking at FragNet, and they seem to have flawless reviews, and they officially support FTB, instead of the vague "mod support" claims.

Their pricing models are based on how much RAM you take - and on that I have no clue.

We're running FTB monster with 5 - 7 active players at most at any given time.

Some number crunching guidelines would help :)

4-6 GB of RAM will hopefully be enough, but I haven't run enough servers to back that up with much experience on my side. I've also never tried running a server with as many mods as Monster has. I'm sure more voices will chime in on this one, though.

Honestly my hosting package has 2 gb of ram, however none of that ram goes towards running a OS like a virtualized environment and it has an extremely high powered CPU. And with lots of chunk loaders and 4 players we see no hick ups. However if the CPU power available to you is on par with what creeper host offers I would go with 4gb.

I am running monster with the addition of 2 more mods.

Ask about their upgrade policies, if you can easily and quickly upgrade I would start lower near 2gb of ram and then upgrade based upon your results.

Well yes, that's why I said if they have a rapid and easy upgrade policy. You don't want to be paying an extra $20-40 a month if you find that you don't need to.

Took the 2GB package on their advise (opened a ticket with them before purchasing asking for advise), and will see from there. So far I'm pleasantly surprised with the huge improvement.

I can get my RAM upgraded at any time during my subscription, so that's no biggie :)
