It is possible to get to the conduit (and liquiduct) stage, without ever building pipes. Just tried that with my current world.

TE ineffecient? you mean the ability to auto process ores without additional pipes and lower cost over gregtech recipes AND no risk of accidentally destroying your machines with an errant wrench? lol to each their own, but i now view ic2 as self serving and overly simplistic
