questions about FTB servers. please help

Ok so I'm pretty new to minecraft and modding. Long story short I spent a few days learning a few mods and how to play. Played single player on creative and on survival (cheated some to speed up some resource :) )

Now I was thinking I'll try multiplayer. I thought joining some free server online and I can play survival there on a nice PvE server so I don't get ganked and stuff :)

I picked this server : mo.endercraft.org. Its free and I can play Monster pack on it.
So there was a voting thing to get free diamonds and I did that and got like 6 free diamonds and then set out in the world to start building and having fun. Got free stone tools and stuff from the server I guess so that was cool.

When I got to a nice spot and made a chest I noticed the server showing the border that was protected for me from people breaking any blocks in the grid area. Now here's my questions....

#1 why is this grid so small??? This is the only claim area I get for free?? I cant even plant shit in this small of a area let alone make a nice quarry and house.
#2 Seems like slim pickings for resources here. Dose this crap respawn at all or something? I guess farther out there was more but still.
#3 where's all the mobs? It went to night time and I didn't see 1 zombie or creeper .!!
#4 no waypoint allowed. How the fuck would I find my house then? I like to wander far sometimes :)
#5 Can someone recommend maybe a different server that dose not spam so much.? I just want to play (survival mode) with people online while I make a killer house and fight off zombies and go to the nether and stuff :) I just want a fun Modded minecraft exp online so I cant cheat.

these are all questions that the server owner would have to answer, this is not the place to ask them. (other than #6)

For server recommendations, go to the server promotion forum and look through them....there are tons.

#1 A lot of servers give you a single chunk (16x16), so build small but deep :D
#2 Resources don't normally respawn, so yes, you have to go far out to get some
#3 Could it be that the dimension you're in is on peaceful? Perhaps there is a separate hostile / pvp dimension. This is also where you usually get resources
#4 Remember coordinates. F3 always works
#5 Go look in the server part of these forums
