Hello I am thinking about downloading FTB but befor I do I have a few questions (and sorry if this is in the wrong forum). I think I read FTB has it's own launcher does that mean that I can keep my Vanilla MC worlds separate from my FTB worlds by choosing the different launcher? If not is there a way to keep them separate so my Vanilla worlds are not affected by the FTB mods (I have 1 world in vanilla that I wanna keep that way then I would like to have a world or 2 with FTB mods). Also when there is an update will I need to manually update it or does it have an automatic update?

The launcher has its own folder where it keeps each pack in its own folder and each pack has its own save folder so it does not interfere with vanilla. When a mod pack updates its recommended version you will be prompted, but it will not prompt you if the version is not recommended. Versions that are not recommended are those versions might not be as bug free or not as tested to the extent as the recommended version. It is pretty simple to update the pack to the newer recommended version when prompted, but it is always a good idea to keep a backup of your saves and configs. Keeping a periodical backup is a good idea as well.
When you finally decide to install FTB please read and follow the directions here carefully and precisely to install the launcher the recommended way. This way is known to keep any possible problems down to a minimum.

thanks that answers my questions better than what I expected. now I just have 1 more question. How do I backup my saves and configs and stuff?
Go to the /%user%/appdata/FTB/ folder, the the modpack folder. Copy the "configs" folder somewhere to back up the configs. Go to the "saves" folder; copy the (WorldNameGoesHere) folder somewhere to back up your world.thanks that answers my questions better than what I expected. now I just have 1 more question. If you follow the guide as is above then the only thing you need to back up for FTB are in the mod pack folder on your desktop. You can either backup the whole folder, not advised unless you have a lot of storage and time, or just the config folder and saves folder. The configs folder and saves folder will be just in each modpack's folder.
Following the guide an example of your folders will be, assuming windows, login name is user and modpack is Unleashed:
C:\users\user\Desktop\FTB\Unleashed\minecraft\config
C:\users\user\Desktop\FTB\Unleashed\saves

thank you and I did download FTB and when I try to play I choose the pack I want and it loads everything it needs then once minecraft actually I click singleplayer it loads the world and as soon as it is done (before it even shows where I am in the world) it stops responding
Unless it responds after a while I'd close it and ensure that the 'keep the console open' is checked in the options menu, the exact text might be different. Then try again, this will ensure that when you close the game console will stay open with your error. Click on the 'Paste my log to pastebin.com' button on the console. This will create a link at the bottom of the console. Provide us with that link so we can see what the problem is. If it does not create the link please copy the console contents over manually to pastebin.com and provide the link it gives you. By default pastebin.com will delete your log in 24hours to ensure that this does not happen you could create a free account with them. Look here for more info about the logs.
I don't have a "keep the console open" button the closest I have is a "reopen launcher after exiting minecraft?" button
oh and I switched from 32-bit java to 64-bit and increased how much RAM it can use and I can play (it lags but Vanilla lags also). and my computer has 4 GB of ram and before I launch FTB it is constantly using about 2 GB of ram. should I set my Ram Maximum(mb) for FTB at 2.0 GB or at 3.75 GB???
Do you have any resource/texture packs. If so then try 3GB or try it without it. Those arguments should help not make it worse, but hopefully Eyamaz will update them for 1.6.4 minecraft and the new launcher when it comes out. Also be sure you have the latest version of Java 7u45 and uninstalled all other versions of Java. Good luck I'm not the best with solving frame rate/lag issues.
Edit: It is always suggested that you leave at least 1GB for your OS. You could try using 3.75, but I would not suggest it.

I am running the default textures and I have my game set to 2GB. my computer has a total of 4GB and normally runs 2GB on its own
and also i get a decent FPS going then will slowly drop down to 1-5 FPS till I change the graphics from fancy to fast or vise versa (then it will go back up then slowly drop again so I need to change it every few minutes)
