I have been trying different mods packs of late and noticed something that is confusing me.

With the different power types how do we connect them?
I use to know one or two ways for some connections but with the expansion of new packs being added and changes in the old one its been getting hard to keep up to date on it; so I was thinking and this is a request to all you Youtubers. (Direwolf, I hope you see this but any would be good)
Could someone explain different sets of power conversions for each?

Like say, show some Redflux engines and then how to convert to each of the others with it.
Repeat for each power base so it shows how to take a preferred power source and how to connect to each mod.

The mods I know of that I would like to possibly see are:

-Buildcraft
-IC2
-Thermal Expansion
-Rotarycraft
-Railcraft

These 5 are the ones I can think of off the top of my head and please, if you think of other big ones out there can you include them if their power type differs.

So for each maybe show a power source the types of lines maybe from it to put out power and then where the change happens to the power type of the other mod is added

I was thinking there is a mod called "Power Converters" (I think that's the name of the mod if I remember correctly) - I haven't touched on it much and it would be nice to see it included as a separate entry, but I don't know anything about Power Converters and some people might not have it included in their packs. So it would be nice to see the WITH and WITHOUT this particular mod so that we can have the option whether or not to build with this particular mod.

I think this would be of great help to the community to have a one stop location to try and see how to integrate all these different mods into a more usable source of power generation depending on which power producing type people want as we all have different favorites but would like to try other machines from other types.

I hope that I explained it well enough and hope I am not trying to overload people but I am sure a lot of more experienced pack users could help us out to understand the connections of these different packs.

Thank you for reading this,

If you have power converters: craft a consumer and a producer of the types of energy you want to convert (e.g. buildcraft to ic2 would be a buildcraft consumer and an EU (ic2 energy) producer). Then craft and place an energy bridge and place the consumer and producer so that they both touch the bridge. Then connect the relevant power grids to the producer and consumer.

If you have Mekanism: It adds universal cable that can convert between buildcraft, thermal expansion and IC2 power (and a few others that you haven't mentioned).

Thermal Expansion to buildcraft: Thermal Expansion energy conduit automatically converts RF to MJ (buildcraft power).

Buildcraft to TE: One way is the Minefactory Reloaded lava fabricator, power that with MJ and send the lava to a magmatic dynamo

IC2 to Buildcraft: Forestry adds an electric engine

Buildcraft to IC2: Lava fabricator to geothermal generators

TE to IC2: The lava fabricator to geothermals again

IC2 to TE: Convert the EU to MJ with electrical engines and MJ to RF with the lava fabricator and magmatic dynamos

Rotarycraft: I've never used this but I think it has a couple of machines that can convert between its power and RF

Railcraft: Railcraft steam boilers produce steam that can be converted into EU with the steam turbine, RF with the steam dynamo, and MJ with the steam engines (three types, hobbyist, commercial and industrial).

If there's any one of those that you want explained in more detail or something else I didn't explain then just say.

One of the one i am trying to see is to rotary craft machines powered from a different source then it system that i might know but this is a start to what i am hoping will give a set of answers for people. one of the reasons i asked for a youtuber was for a visual explanation but i am so so glad you spoke up also as this will start to help people understand connections with the systems. even pictures would be nice so people could understand the concepts

Again thanks omegatron for starting the responses look forward to others ideas and descriptions

This was a thought that might help visual learners as to what we could try and do sort of as we go. I figured for this I would use the thermal expansion as a base idea and we could maybe at the end of it all do a picture reference if we can't get some you tubers to help with a walk thru.

This showing a source and then the transition of power to the conversion for each type, I hope this sounds good idea as I noticed with this post that Khrfreak has noticed that the pipes possibly for others will convert so that would help also.

Hope we can build on this and make a good lay out for all to see and understand on all fronts visually and text wise and hopefully also video in the future

Ako_the_builder and Bevo has done videos on rotary craft. Ako shows it in both of his Monster series, and Bevo has a multi-part spotlight/tutorial on it. :) And I know quite a bit about it as well, so if you need help with it feel free to ask. The mod also comes with an in game manual.

part of the idea i had with this thread besides to find out for me but also to consolidate laded info on cross mods power structures for people some of the newer mods and the older mods have changed and/or added stuff so i figured this would help people to see all the possibilities not just me

like for example some of the idea so far i didn't have all in one place it hunting and pecking all over trying to find info and some times you get info on the old versions and not the new stuff so i figured it be a good time to update info for all but new and old to the packs and with ideas we might not of thought of for power structures builds

like everyone has sometimes a favorite engine to produce the power but how do we sink them all together as best as possible, with the packs where using as not all the packs have the same full mods so i figure if we take it on the bases of how it hooks up with each to each we can then find the one set in this we need and can use and put it to use

for example if i had thermal expansion and buildcraft and rail how do i hook them up where another might have build ic2 and rotarycraft

so that why i figured on how do we hook each of these together a spot to focus on this and why i have come to you all whom know systems and that and might find also new ideas as we talk about this and see how they hook up

wagon153 i like that you have mentioned some videos but if it mixed in there and only a part of it then it would be confussing for some to find the parts they need to mix and match the systems

altou please contune with idea folks it building up

Well in that case, the gas turbine from rotary craft is capable of producing 11,000 RF/t if connected to a rotational dynamo. And there is a way to convert fuel from Buildcraft to rotary craft jet fuel using a purifier. Thermal expansion Steam dynamos can be put right onto a railcraft steam boiler and auto take in the steam, producing 80 rf/t or 8 mj/t. Reactant dynamos can produce 750,000 RF if given a bucket of glowstone, 500,000 if given a bucket of redstone. They do need a reactant, which can be either sugar, gunpowder, ghast tears, or a netherstar. Rotary craft has no way to convert its energy directly to IC2 EU due to incompatibility of the energy systems, according to Reika. Buildcraft fuel can also be used in a compression dynamo, though not sure how much energy it produces. RF can be converted to Rotary craft Torque and Rads using a magnetostatic engine. :p

Buildcraft produces fuel & MJ (refinery and combustion engine)
Railcraft produces steam, and converts steam to MJ (boilers and steam engines)
Forestry produces MJ, and converts MJ to EU (Electrical Engine)
Thermal Expansion produces RF and converts RF to MJ (and probably EU to)
RotaryCraft can produce W(watts) from RC steam, BC MJ, TE RF or BC fuel, and can produce MJ, RC Steam & RF from W. The build in Monster 1.0.10 has items that claim to convert EU <-> W but they are marked as being non functional.
IC2 produces EU
