i would ask why the max amount of memory is only 1 GB, i keep running out of memory and going down to about 1 FPS and i just can't play the FTB mod pack beacuse of this. is there some way to fix this or do i just have to deal with it?
You need to have a 64 bit version of java installed to allocate more than 1gb ram. In order to be able to install a 64 bit version of java, you must be using a 64 bit operating system.
