How can I calculate the total amount of EU per tick I would get from 124 of them?

1 Solar = 512 EU/t

Tick = 1/20 second.

512 * 124.

512 * 100 = 51200

51200 / 4 = 12800

12800 + 51200 = 64000

64000 - 512 = 63488

Or you could have got a calculator and used it to times 512 * 124.

I could have, but I thought that the cabling I was using would limit that amount.

No the cable isn't limiting the through-put. The only limit is the packet size, not the amount of packets.

There is loss through cables, but that would be negligible(as long as you use Fibre cable).
And as Wekmore said, cables can handle (almost) unlimited amount of packets, but will explode if you force just a single too large packet through it.
What will limit the output however is storage devices(batbox, MFE, MFSU) and transformers. Each of them has a limited EU/t capacity. So if you need to use any of those you will need multiple of them in parallel.

To note this will no longer be the case in 1.6.4

I don't think EU is going to be too popular in 1.6.4. :)
When a mod purposely moves to make itself be geared toward a smaller population of the community than it previously was; such is expected.

I use it a good bit. Actually my main energy is ue. I just convert to eu whenever I need to.

The only energy I really don't use is mj's

Actually, MPS can be configured to use UE components for crafting too. But TE3 is out now and the new build #44 of MPS supports TE3. :3

I actually like the new IC2, though I haven't had chance to play with it. Then again, I also like playing with GregTech. I'm looking forward to seing what else Thunderdark is going to add :)

From what I have seen/read:

1.6 IC2 is alot different from the older versions. EU is not measured by packets, but by how much EU you have in total. So you can have a max of 32 EU/t (I think) total running through a copper wire. Batbox only can take up to 32 EU/t (not like before where you could have 10 packets with 32 EU/t each).

Machine wise it went kinda in the direction of GT machines, you now have iron plates instead of refined iron. Iron plates/plates in general are made in some sort of machine or using a hammer which has not too many uses I think. Wires are made via a machine or a tool to cut the ingots into wires. Machines that take forever and take alot of energy can triple your ores tho.
Sorry, I don't know the names of the machines xD

There might have been a few other changes that I'm not aware of

If anything is wrong/inaccurate someone please correct me.

there's also alot of changes in the burning values of items and liquids with mods like Buildcraft, Railcraft and Forestry

It looks like it will scale poorly for large projects, or it did last time I looked at it, requiring many more trunks/transformers/MFE/MFSU/Batboxes to move the same amount of EU as in previous versions.

On top of that almost all of the recipes and/or processing for IC2 itself is more complex without providing enough gains for the increased complexity(same reason few people use Factorization ore tripling).

As much as people like to deny it it really looks like a case of the gregtech tail wagging the IC2 dog. The two will be a more consistent package for fans of gtech, FWIW.

A lot can change between now and their first non-experimental release though. :)
